Muslim Brotherhood Hails Ties With US

Karam

And so there you have it:

CAIRO: The head of the political arm of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood on Wednesday hailed US-Egyptian ties during talks with the US State Department's number two, but also said they must be "balanced."

The meeting with Deputy Secretary of State William Burns at the Cairo headquarters of the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) came at the end of marathon elections that propelled Islamist parties to centre stage.

Washington has reached out to the Brotherhood in a nod to the country's new political reality, with Islamists poised to dominate the first parliament since a popular uprising ousted veteran president Hosni Mubarak in February.

Sheikh Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi (January 30, 2009):

Throughout history, Allah has imposed upon the [Jews] people who would punish them for their corruption. The last punishment was carried out by Hitler. By means of all the things he did to them – even though they exaggerated this issue – he managed to put them in their place.

This was divine punishment for them. Allah willing, the next time will be at the hand of the believers.

This is who the Obama administration is supporting.

  1. Ok... So, who would you suggest we support? No more complaining, just solutions. We know they are bad guys, so what in reality do you suggest we do?

What would you do if you were POTUS? Given the finish of the Islamists in Egypt (they won roughly 70% of the popular vote and the liberals completely dropped out) who or what solution do you support or propose?

You are very critical of the President here - what would you do differently?

  2. Jimmy Carter says:
“My opinion after meeting with them [the Muslim Brotherhood], is that they will rule, to the extent that they’ve been granted the authority, in a very moderate way. That they will respect the interests of women, they will respect the interests of other religious groups, including the Coptic Christians, and they are very determined to have a good relationship with the government of the United States, with the government of Israel, and to honor the terms of the peace treaty between Israel and Egypt, which i helped to negotiate.”

It's as if the very purpose of the MB is denied by people who want the best and therefore ignore the possibility of the worst.

It is this type of pie in the sky approach that is a concern. Of course we have to deal with them, but should we now start to pretend, because they won an election, that they will be democrats and pursue a democratic ideals?

How many Copts have left Egypt? One NGO estimated it could already be 250,000 this past year:

Christians are under attack by Muslims in the Middle East and elsewhere.

Now I read the morality police are arriving:

The self-proclaimed Islamist "Morality Police" announced on its new official Facebook page that it has acquired 1,000 tazers to be distributed to volunteers who will promote "virtue" and combat "vice" in the Egyptian street.

The "Morality Police", which models itself on a similar group in Saudi Arabia that monitors citizens social behaviour, added in its announcement that these electric shocks batons will help in self-defence against any possible attacks on volunteers, adding that volunteers would be instructed to use the tazers only in "extremely necessary" situations.

So should we "support" this? Or should we talk and stand up for OUR principles?

  4. So in short: No, I won't tell you what I would do in this situation except for some vague comment about "standing up for our principles - whatever the hell that means.

Get back to me when you have some specifics about what you would do that the Obama administration has not done. Key word here: SPECIFICS.  Other than that you are whining.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Have you provided any more specifics other than "we must talk to them"? You ask for so much, but all I see you doing is nodding in approval.
What I mean is that the Administration, publicly, should expose the record of the MB, and say that cooperation in the future depends on actual performance to pursue what they have nor pursued in the past, not just accepting promises. We have a lot of soft power. Yet it seems we are afraid of insulting them, while they insult us daily.

  6. Hi VB,

    thanks for dropping in.

So, tell me again why it is that your candidate actually supports an anti-Semitic genocidal organization like the Muslim Brotherhood?

    That's the question that counts.

    ReplyDelete
  7. No not really... why are my questions such tough ones to answer.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I fully think the MB is illiberal. You must not read what I write.

So, should I assume you will not be answering any of my questions?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I did.  I said what we should do. Perhaps you should read it again.

Yes, they won and we should talk to them.  But should we enable them or give them more legitimacy than they deserve, while turning away from the liberals in the society? Why are you so comfortable with the way that Obama speaks to the MB, and the OIC, and his acceptance of mediators? Do you acknowledge that the more power they get, the worse it is both for America and Jews?

That is where I think you drop the ball. There is NOTHING wrong with Obama supporters being critical of Obama when he does things that hurt us.

That is how I answered you.  Again, I get to choose how I reply, not you. The sooner you can accept that, the better.

  10. The sooner I accept that??? My aren't you quite the internet toughie. Oooh I am so chastised......

  12. To Volleyboy, in continuation.

I am starting to think that you have some serious issues at communication.

You can be quite juvenile in your discourse.

I watched as you engaged in needless fights at Daily Kos over the silliest things.

Yeah, I am a real toughie!!

Is that the best response you can muster?

I deal with your substance, and your demands for answers. But it seems you have no real answers when the questions are tough for you, so must rely on taunts from the sandbox.

Obama needs a better representative, I think.
