Let's Try Again, Shall We?

People keep telling me that I am arguing that the Left is anti-Semitic, despite the fact that over and over and over again I clarify that this is NOT my argument.

Here is my argument.

It is right there on the right of the page.

The progressive movement, and the activist base of the Democratic Party, creates and supports venues that demonize and defame the Jewish state, thereby also creating hatred toward the Jewish people.

This is either true or it is false. I would argue that it is most emphatically true and continually point to direct quotes that proves that it is true. I am not the only one working on this. It is for this reason that I highlight the work of the guys over at Huffington Post Monitor and CiF Watch who are monitoring the Huffington Post and the UK Guardian respectively.

Those are venues, along with Daily Kos, on the progressive-left that demonize and defame the Jewish state.  They are venues that support a political sub-movement, BDS anti-Zionism, that is largely absent from the political Right.

This defamation of the Jewish state, furthermore, creates hatred toward that country and thereby, inevitably, creates hatred toward Jews, in general.

Therefore, as a matter of common sense and basic human decency, Jews should leave the progressive movement and the Democratic Party...

My answer to this problem is to leave the movement so that they will not take us for granted.

That's my answer. Dump the movement, because they've obviously dumped us.

My friend, Volleyboy1, responds to my question below by calling it "ridiculous":

Why is it that the Jews are the only people on the entire planet who believe that they have some moral imperative to support a political movement (the progressive-left) that actively seeks to undermine Jewish well-being?

... Karma - it is a ridiculous question. It is like "Why did you beat your wife today?"

First, I would suggest that calling the question "ridiculous" is, indeed, being dismissive.

Rather than actually considering the question, it is just so easy to call it a name and then move on.

Let us therefore take a moment to actually consider this question.

I maintain that Jewish people tend to believe that they have a moral imperative to support a political movement (the progressive-left) that is harmful to Jewish well-being.

Is this true? Do Jews believe that they have a moral imperative to support the progressive-left?

Why, yes. Yes, they do, in fact.

They tend to believe that the Right is harmful to America's interests and therefore tend further to believe that they have an imperative to support the political Left. Am I wrong? Do vast numbers of Jewish people not feel an imperative to support the progressive-movement and the Democratic Party?

Given the numbers of Jews on the Left, you could sure fool me, because it looks to me like Jews were, at least, "in the bag" for the Democratic Party.

The question then becomes, is it true, or is it not true, that the progressive-left is harmful to Jewish interests?

I am arguing that it is harmful to Jewish interests when it supports anti-Semitic anti-Zionism.

And therefore this question is not only not "ridiculous" but is in fact highly relevant and central to the question of Jewish political support in the United States.

Here it is, again:

Why is it that the Jews are the only people on the entire planet who believe that they have some moral imperative to support a political movement (the progressive-left) that actively seeks to undermine Jewish well-being?

Jewish liberals can either face that question or ignore it.

I cannot really blame those who choose to ignore it, because facing up to the truth about one's political loyalties can be exceedingly difficult emotionally, psychologically, socially, and even sometimes economically and professionally.

But the bottom line is that the progressive-left is bad for the Jewish people and we are therefore in the process of leaving it behind us, as recent polling data verifies:

Party Affiliation by Religion - Long Term Trend - Pew Research Center (2010)

The Jews are finally awakening from our collective vegetable torpor.

Good for us!

And if the Left wants to play footsie with anti-Semitic anti-Zionists, than they can do it without our backing or support.

  1. I need to follow that up with the fact that there are practically NO pro-Palestinian activists or pro-Palestinian organizations who will condemn Nazis like Gilad Atzmon. If they don't promote his filth, they excuse, ignore, or deny it. It is simply ANTI-Palestinian for them (or rightwing) to denounce him.

Personally, I say anyone who promotes, denies, excuses, or ignores Nazi antisemitism is an antisemite. Every bit as much as anyone doing the same with regard to Islamophobia, racism vs. blacks, asians, etc.

  2. Excellent Shane Hensinger smack down of rat faced Lefty Coaster:

There is something really rotten about you (2+ / 0-)

The meanness, the inability to think past your own rationalizations and the absolutely breathtaking belief in your own righteousness and in that in which you profess to believe.

    it's almost... Republican-like.

  3. It appears volleyball is back at dKos and he has a diary about a deal with Hamas for Gilad Shalit. I would rather Karma front page it since I am bent outta shape about it and have little nuance to share....except maybe to point out it took someone like Bibi to do it.

Anyway we need his take not mine on something this big.

    Peace.

  5. "Abu Attaya, spokesman of the Popular Resistance Committees, whose fighters joined Hamas in the capture of Shalit, said militants would kidnap more Israeli soldiers until all Palestinian prisoners are freed.

"The coming weeks and month will witness more responses and more, similar operations. We will continue the same path to kidnap Zionist soldiers in order to clear all prisons," the masked spokesman said, clutching an AK 47 assault rifle.

"Today the resistance talks," an activist cried over the loudspeaker of one mosque. "Today the enemy submitted to our demands and that was just the start."
