Daily Kos Comment of the Day

Once a country that is the sworn enemy (3+ / 0-)

of your nation, your ethnicity and your religion has nukes, it makes diplomatic relations rather moot. The long term negative effects of getting nuked are rather larger than the long term effects on the reputation of your diplomacy.

You may remember from history that John Kennedy threatened war over nuclear weapons in Cuba. That was a tiny country threatening a superpower. Now Iran is a much, much larger country than Israel, and the threat of a nation with its most powerful faction being crazed religious radicals, may not seem to be a long-term diplomatic issue to Israel, but rather a short-term survival issue.

Now, I am sure that you, and many here, feel that it would be most unfortunate if Israel was nuked, but of course it won't disturb your plans to attend the theater next week. Others feel that being threatened by nuclear annihilation is completely unacceptable and will fight to defend themselves from that outcome.
