'I got used to being called a dirty Jew'

DOODAD

Oceane Sluijzer, 13,  describes her recent attack by 5 Muslim girls. It was horrific but more horrific was the police response.

"The police suggested that I keep quiet about the incident. They asked me, 'Don't say that it's anti-Semitism,'" Oceane reveals. "They even suggested that I avoid going to the hospital." According to her father, Dan, "The police said they would collect the five girls' testimonies and settle for that. If they attack her again in the future, they promised to act differently. The police wanted to bury this affair as soon as possible."

The school?

"The educational system's response was similar. Oceane returned home that day and didn't leave her house for the next 10 days, but no one at the school even bothered to check on her. Her schoolmates disappeared too. "A week later, the principal called and asked me to visit his office with Oceane's mother," the father says. "He said he had decided to suspend the girls' leader. I informed him that my daughter would not be returning to a school which is incapable of protecting her. As far as he was concerned, it was enough. It was the ideal solution."

Shame on Belgium.

  1. All Jewish children need to learn a form of the martial arts, particularly the girls.

  2. Great find.  I started to write a comment, but it expanded into a post on the subject in Europe, generally.

This is truly a despicable episode, but too common.

As I said in the comment, in Europe, where multiculturalism is king, freedom from discrimination does not seem to apply to Jews.

  3. Even if she knew martial arts she was in trouble. Trust me, it would not have made that much of a difference. That said there is certainly nothing wrong with learning to defend oneself. All children in general - not just Jewish children can benefit from martial arts, but they are not a "cure all".

This is a sad story, kids bullying kids is always a sad story. That this had anti-Semitic overtones made it worse.

  4. Hey, now you I have a question for.

Am I wrong or does dkos I-P seem to be drying up a little?

I get the distinct impression that it is fading.  Perhaps it is just a lull, but I do not know.

    What do you think?

  5. I think so... a bit. The focus is (and should be) is on the Presidential Race and American internal issues as well as how to keep the President in the White House and get all of Congress back in the (D) column.

That is at least my interest (as you know)

  6. Notice that when left alone, it's just the same bunch of anti-Israel crusaders, and it's a small bunch.

  7. school, noting the relatively small number of anti-Zionists on Daily Kos seems to be the preferred response among people trying to downplay the phenomenon.

While it is true that relatively few progressives are anti-Zionists, it is also true that the anti-Zionists mainly drive the conversation around I-P in the progressive-left and have done serious damage to not only the reputation of the Jewish state, but of Jews, more generally.

As imams scream for Jewish blood throughout the Arab Middle East, we have anti-Semitic anti-Zionists defaming Israel, not just on Daily Kos, but in all sorts of progressive venues, large and small.

As described elsewhere, Israel is surrounded by concentric rings of hatred of which the western progressive press is part of the final ring.

We should underestimate these people as they have succeeded in turning Israel into the only country on the planet wherein people discuss whether or not it should be allowed to exists or whether or not it should have come into existence in the first place.

Anti-Zionism is problem that people who care about Israel need to take seriously, not downplay, imo.

We're not terribly apart here either.
