Barry Rubin on the Jihadi Massacre in Toulouse

Mike L.

In a piece entitled, "France: Here Comes the Whitewash," Dr. Rubin writes:

A big story like the Toulouse attack can draw attention to a broader, dangerous political and social trend.

Or it can be treated as an isolated incident. Nothing to see here; move along; go back to sleep. Al-Qaida terrorists don't pull up in front of Jewish schools to murder teachers and students every day, right?

Part of the problem that the Jewish people have is the tendency among "progressive" Jews to downplay the significance of the Jihad on the world stage. If we cannot bring ourselves to genuinely recognize that there is a problem then we cannot even begin to discuss the problem. If we cannot discuss the problem then we cannot create strategies and tactics for dealing with it.

Phase one is to present any terrorist as a right-wing, neo-Nazi, or opponent of left-wing policies. If the terrorist is a Muslim, however, his own explanations—citing dominant interpretations of Islam and the goal of furthering an Islamist revolution—are ignored.

For reasons having much to do with what might be called the "multicultural imperative," the western press is largely unwilling to deal with the fact of radical Islam in a straightforward manner because they  do not wish to be smeared as "racist" or "Islamophobic" and therefore the tendency, in the aftermath of political slaughter, is to assume that the assailant is right-wing. The reason for this is because bigotry and hatred directed at "right-wingers" or "conservatives" is perfectly acceptable within progressive-left circles.

Instead, he or they are presented as confused, psychologically disturbed individuals; victims of discrimination; or, in short, anything other than ideologically motivated revolutionaries.

Indeed. The tendency, as we are seeing currently, is not to blame a growing international genocidal movement, a movement that calls quite specifically for the murder of Jews and "infidels," but to point the trembling finger of blame at the victims, themselves. The Jews are, and have been for a very, very long time now, the victims of Koranically-inspired Muslim race-hatred and when we are murdered because of that race-hatred we are then castigated by progressive-left journals for being the cause of the attacks against us and of being the victimizer rather than the victim.

In this way the progressive-left narrative of perpetual "Palestinian" victimhood becomes simultaneously a club to beat Jews with and a tool to reverse victim and victimizer. The Jews of the Middle East suffered 1,300 years of second and third class citizenship under the boot of Muslim imperialism, followed by 100 years of war against us immediately upon our release from the Sharia prison, yet among "progressives" we are something akin to Nazis oppressing the poor "indiginous" population.

This is not just a matter of misinformation. Such falsehoods encourage governments and institutions not to prepare, not to change their ways, not to learn from bloody experience, to continue denying the very existence of an antisemitic problem. And that means there will occasionally be more such tragedies but also hundreds of incitements to antisemitism, blood libels against Israel, assaults, threats, and other acts of anti-Jewish hatred that you will never hear about.

Hiding the truth only ensures that the problem grows and the tragedies are repeated. And unfortunately that is precisely what's happening.

How many times must radical Jihadis scream from the rooftops their desire to murder Jews before we acknowledge reality?

How many more little Jewish kids must be murdered by these people before we will stand up and demand that they stop teaching genocidal hatred toward us?

When will Jewish people, themselves, finally acknowledge that our problem is not with conservative or Evangelical Christians, but with a strain of Islam that is spreading throughout the Middle East under the so-called "Arab Spring"?

What will it take for diaspora Jews to yank their heads out of the sand?

What will it take?

  1. The Press is COMPLICIT in the Jew hate.

    "STORY REMOVED: Gaza-Power Cuts

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — The Associated Press has withdrawn its story about a 5-month-old baby who was said to have died Friday after the generator powering his respirator ran out of fuel, the first known death linked to the territory's energy crisis. The timing and reason for the death were confirmed to the AP by a man identified as the baby's father and a Gaza health official, but the report has been called into question after it was learned that a local newspaper carried news of the baby's death on March 4.

A substitute story will be filed shortly reflecting the new information."

    1. "The Press is COMPLICIT in the Jew hate."

Yes, of course it is. The members of the Western mass media are the main propagators of the now massively widely believed intendedly genocidal libels that are being propagated against Israel.

This is not news. This is obvious. It's horrific, but it's obvious. The members of the Western mass media have been, for the past several decades, but especially for the last twelve years, consciously - by lying by omission, and by lying blatantly - propagating intendedly genocidal libels against Israel.

As I've said: Anti-Jewish racist bigotry is a deeply engrained part of the culture of Western societies (culturally Christian-European - Christian and formerly Christian - societies).

And, as I've said: Very many Jewish people are experiencing a deep profound form of Stockholm syndrome to various degrees. And Jewish people who are experiencing this deep profound form of Stockholm syndrome to severe degrees are the most fervent propagators of, and are the most influential propagators of, lies that vilify the community of Jewish people who are being attacked and libeled. This has been the case for many hundreds of years.

However, as I've said: What needs to be done in order to dispel the now massive widespread belief in genocidal lies that vilify Israel, and that obfuscate the nature of, and that glorify, Fatah-PLO and the 'Palestinian movement', and that obfuscate the nature of, and that glorify, the global Islamic supremacist political movement, is for Jewish people, and especially, and most importantly, the leaders of the government of Israel, to tell the factual history of the situation that Israel is in, and to, as part of that, communicate the current reality of the situation that Israel is in.

  2. btw, as an aside, I see that Daily Kos is planning an anti-Israel hate fest for Netroots Nation.

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/03/19/1075776/-Netroots-Nation-I-P-Panel-Survives-First-Round-of-Cuts

There's no way that any such panel will come any close to being even handed.

At best it will contain the kind of "Zionist" that says, "Yeah, Israeli policies are horrific, and the country is headed towards fascism, but that's because of Likud."

  4. It does not matter what the progressive Jews do, or the Left for that matter. It is just a matter of time before the threat of the totalitarian aspects become clear for all. It will take blood, sweat and tears.

Even so, I think progressive Jews slow the process of discovery about the stated intentions of the aggressors, and should not try to silence those that do speak out about the threat.

Jews face far greater disproportionate persecution than any other minority group, in terms of the both numbers and the character therof. Are there explicit calls for genocide against any other people on the planet? It is not just about Israel. Jews live in fear across Europe.

Progressive Jews also discount, in my view, that many on the Left do not believe that the Jewish people are victims of oppression or are entitled to a nation-state to establish self-determination.

And as they jump on the Right, often accurately, there is a failure to acknowledge that authoritarianism is not limited to the Right. The Left has noble aspirations (as does the Right), but has little compunction to cut corners on principles. Its movements are subject to failure because of the contradiction between the rhetoric of "social justice" and actions to implement it.

    1. Well, y'know, School,

I was never one to jump up and down and scream my bloody head off about terrorism, myself, until fairly recently.

What I do not understand is the near complete inability of Jewish "progressives" to even address the issue.

Why do you suppose it is that they absolutely refuse to engage an obvious and serious threat to the physical well-being of the Jewish people?

The rise of radical Islam does not really make me think of the 1930s, but the failure of diaspora Jewry to face an obvious threat does make me think of that time.

Thankfully the same cannot be said of most Israeli Jews... who do not read Ha'aretz or join organizations like the NIF.

    2. The environment that exists at the university and among the intelligentsia, post 1967, due to the politics of oil and Arab largesse, the effects of which are now also seen in the USA.

An attraction to "resistance" movements for its own sake, especially against perceived imperial, colonialist entities, which denies Jews as I indicated, and is exacerbated by political correctness and humanitarian racism.

That's my best answer at the moment.

  6. Am I to understand that the guy trained with the Taliban in Afghanistan, got picked up by the Americans who handed him over to the French, who sent him home, gave him a cookie and a pat the head, before dropping him off on the street?

    Really?

    2. I didn't know how seriously I should take it until I saw so much of the Arab world turn toward political Islam.

Again, this is the single most significant geo-political event since the fall of the Soviet Union and it is almost completely ignored by the Left.

It's a widespread political movement that specifically target us for genocide and, yet, somehow, even "progressive" Jews do not care.

  7. "Approximately 85 Frenchmen have been training with the Pakistani Taliban in the North Waziristan tribal area for the past three years, according to the intelligence officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media. Most of the men have dual nationality with France and North African countries.

The Frenchmen operate under the name Jihad-e-Islami and are being trained to use explosives and other weapons at camps near the town of Miran Shah and in the Datta Khel area, the officials said. They are led by a French commander who goes by the name Abu Tarek. Five of the men returned to France in January 2011 to find new recruits, according to the officials. It's unclear whether Merah was among that group."

  8. Just when you thought it couldn't get any freaking worse in France comes this:

    Google translation

"TOULOUSE (Reuters) - Thirty young people, mostly girls, gathered Saturday in the district of Toulouse Izards, which grew Mohamed Merah, to honor the memory of the killer of seven people shot dead by police Thursday, comparing their pain to those victims' families.

One hundred members of security forces have surrounded this event static during which a woman wearing a full veil harangued the group.

"We are what we ask today is that we stop demonizing Mohamed, that's it, he died," she said.

"We share the pain and suffering of the families because it is the same pain for us here," said the girl, who declined to give his name. "I think what influenced him is what he has seen in his many travels. He could not manage all that. It was still a teenager in his head, despite his 23 years."

The police had detected Toulouse calls to demonstrate Saturday morning and prevented the group to join another. The demonstration was dispersed in the late afternoon without incident...."

  9. Must Watch:

(Particularly important is (at around 24m into the video) Clare Lopez's expounding on the Muslim Brotherhood's infiltration of the U.S. government since the 1950's / the U.S. government's collusion with the Muslim Brotherhood since the 1950's. Clare Lopez is a former member of the CIA. The whole video is important. I recommend to watch the whole video.)
