Murdered Jews in Toulouse

Michael

This is one of those very sad stories that just kind of leaves me slack-jawed.

A French Jihadi murdered a rabbi, two of his children, and another child in a Jewish school in the beautiful city of Toulouse.

What can one say about this?

It's worth noting that upon initial reports the media leaped to the conclusion that the perpetrator was a hard-line, right-wing, neo-Nazi, skin-head type. This has turned out not to be true. Mohamed Merah is a violent radical Islamist who killed cops and killed Jews because his political movement whipped up ideological hatred within his heart.

I am not entirely certain how the American right is going to react to this story, but there will be elements on the left that will blame either Israel or both Israel and the United States for these hideous and brutal murders.  Some will claim, or suggest, or otherwise imply, that the devil made him do it.  They will talk about colonialism and imperialism and occupation and "apartheid walls" and on and on and on and, thereby, justifying the unjustifiable.

Of the various forms of bigotry common on the progressive-left, among the worst is the condescension toward Arabs and Muslims.  I find it absolutely grotesque.  If you read the left press it is painfully clear that they tend not to believe that people of color have agency or are in any way responsible for themselves.  Whenever an Arab or Muslim makes news for doing "bad," the tendency on the left is to blame ourselves or the Jewish state or both.

What they will avoid talking about, however, is the radical Jihad as a movement that spreads hatred throughout much of the Muslim world toward non-Muslims and most particularly toward Jews.

Of that you can be certain.

  2. Well, the bastard is dead; he jumped out the window as police finally broke in. Good riddance. One down but unfortunately many more of these monsters yet to go.

Apparently al-Qaeda Maghreb has taken responsibility for the terror attacks. No surprise there.

The fact that the perp said he did it for Palestinian children is bound to frame much of the rhetoric we will hear from antizionists/antisemites. Already we are being implored not to blame Islam. How hypocritical given the instant blame given to the "right," after the Norway massacre. But, of course, a strain of Islam is to blame; the radical Jihadist strain.

No doubt it will continue to commit atrocities like these. There is no answer as far as I can see except eternal vigilance.

  3. Evidently the true story is worse than even I imagined.

"Report: Woman warned French police over Toulouse shooter years before killings
Woman tells French media she filed two complaints against Mohamed Merah after he forced her son to watch gruesome videos of al-Qaida shooting women and beheading hostages in Afghanistan.....The woman also stated that the “true mind” behind the suspect was his brother Abdelkader, who is currently in police custody. “It is he who brainwashed [Merah] and often flew out of France,” she said."

    1. So, he was known to the French authorities as potentially dangerous before the attack in a manner not that unsimilar to the way that the Fort Hood Jihadi was known to US military as a potentially dangerous character.

And in both cases they fail to prevent horrendous murders that were, in fact, preventable.

The reason for this, of course, is that the west has no real stomach.

    2. Well, at least that diarist recognizes that there is "a movement that can today apparently reach anywhere and kill children."

It is about a movement, political Islam, which the diarist cannot name because they have been taught to think about this scary topic is verboten and there are social penalties for doing so.

The only real question in my mind is whether political Islam, or "radical Islam," is a distortion of that religion or not?

I honestly do not know the answer to that question, but one difference between us and many "progressives" is that we are capable of articulating it.

They are not... or, if they are, they absolutely refuse to do so.

    3. "The only real question in my mind is whether political Islam, or "radical Islam," is a distortion of that religion or not?"

Tricky question. Scientifically, the numbers suggest that the great majority of Muslims do not engage in radical acts so those who do are outliers. OTOH, we do not see large wholesale denunciations of such acts by Muslims at large. Is this tacit approval? Fear might be the answer in certain regions of the world but not in most. I would be more convinced if there were political activism by Muslims against radical Jihad anywhere in the world. There is not as far as I know. Among non-Muslims however there is political activism against almost anything or anyone seen as dangerous or wrong.....except Jihad. Those who do are labelled right wing zealots and are deemed more dangerous than the Jihadists themselves.

Man, they sure were convinced the Toulouse guy was a neo-nazis or crazed right winger weren't they until it became obvious he was a Muslim. Anybody who predicted he indeed probably was a Muslim took a lot of heat on the intertubes initially as bigots. Of course later, the left just doesn't do egg on the face does it?

  4. While the Jewish world is still trying to absorb the recent bloody events out of France over on Daily Kos they continue the incitement.

Major new EU-funded study: Palestinian children 'systematically' ill-treated and tortured, by the famously anti-Semitic Heathlander.

This hatred gives sofia the warm fuzzies:

    Thank you for bringing.. (0+ / 0-)

..the EU study pointing to the systematic pattern of ill-treatment and torture of Palestinian children detained by Israel, to our attention, heathlander.

    Fantastic work, as usual.
