I wonder what my old 'friend' from Daily Kos, JustJennifer (who I last saw supporting Black Bloc anarchists tossing incendiary devices into downtown Portland office buildings), or Dianne Gee, has to say about this?
I'm sure those last pics free them from imperialism, of course...
And not only the "progressive left". In Britain, a Coalition minister, Conservative MP Caroline Spelman, declared that "the burka confers dignity". http://daphneanson.blogspot.co.uk/2010/09/costume-dramas-part-two-burkhas-and.html
Just sad.

Yeah.
What I'd like to know is Jay. Where do Feminists stand on this dreadful oppression of women? How come they never say boo?
ReplyDeleteI know, right? Professed values seem to take a back seat for all too many these days, in certain situations.
DeleteIn the progressive-left there has been an unspoken tension between the ideal of universal human rights and the multicultural ideal.
ReplyDeleteBy embracing the multicultural ideal it pushed a commitment to universal human rights aside because the two are incompatible.
Thus feminists, seeking ways to reconcile the irreconcilable, started listening to "Muslim women voices" who told them that the burka is "liberating."
Probably the most important voice discussing the death of feminism is Dr. Phyllis Chesler.
She represents one in an ever growing list of alienated progressives.
