And now that I'm on that, I've never had Israeli wine before. But I'd like to try some soon.
I'm not a wine drinker (and I can't drink any hard stuff), I stick mostly to the occasional beer (btw - He'Brew Lenny R.I.P.A. is a fantastic beer I just finally was able to try for the first time a couple weeks back). And when I do pick up the occasional bottle, back in Oregon it was always a riesling from a Willamette Valley vendor at the farmers' market, and these days it's a Pennsylvania wine from Reading Terminal Market. My locavore-ism aside, I am going to go out of my way this year to try a few Israeli wines. That's my New Year's-related f* you to BDS, for the record. ;)
Y'know, I'm not all that familiar with Israeli wine, either, but I'm guessing they make some pretty good bottles there.
The person to ask, I think, would be David Honig. If I'm not mistaken, he's involved in a wine blog and probably has good knowledge on that subject.
Certainly Laurie and I drink enough of the local wines. We've started exploring the wineries around Lodi because they are doing some pretty great stuff with Zins and doing it without the kind of attitude that you find in Napa and, increasingly, Sonoma.
Anyways, it's a beautiful day here in the Oakland hills. Clear, cool, and sunny on this first day of the New Year.
Yay.
Oh, and the Brotherhood is predicting that Israel will be gone (poof!) sometime in the next ten years.
I'm still fairly amazed at the equanimity with which most diaspora Jews have accepted the rise of political Islam throughout the Middle East.
In truth, I think that our instincts for self-preservation are basically kaput. It seems to be a Jewish trait, at least in the diaspora because I get the distinct impression that our fellows in Israel take a somewhat different line on such things... which is why so many of them are walking around with rifles strapped to their backs.
Thank G-d for the Israelis because if we had to count on American Jews to defend the Jewish people we'd all be doomed.
Was awesome weather for the Mummers Parade here in Philadelphia today, btw, but I had to miss it. Argh! And next year, I'll almost certainly be working up in North Jersey for the holiday. Oh well, maybe 2015!
You forgot to note that the wine is from Israel... ;)
