Obama touts Hagel as possible defense secretary and best friend that Israel could possibly ever have

US president offers strong support for former Republican senator as potential defense secretary who's been criticized for his record on Israel

President Barack Obama offered strong support for former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel as the potential next US defense secretary but said in remarks aired on Sunday that he had not yet decided on a nominee for the Pentagon post.

Hagel is considered a leading candidate to replace outgoing Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, but the former Nebraska lawmaker has come under criticism for his record on Israel and for a comment that being gay was an inhibiting factor for being an ambassador.

"I've served with Chuck Hagel. I know him. He is a patriot. He is somebody who has done extraordinary work both in the United States Senate, somebody who served this country with valor in Vietnam," Obama told NBC's "Meet the Press" in an interview taped on Saturday and broadcast on Sunday.
Yes, I am sure that Chuck Hagel is the best friend that Israel ever had and has Israel's back and is more supportive of the Jewish state than anyone who has ever lived, much like Obama himself.

Besides, everyone knows that the best way to be friendly toward Israel is tough love... a good raping, perhaps.

What Israel clearly needs are more friends like Chuck Hagel and Barack Obama and Peter Beinart and Rashid Khalidi and Thomas Friedman and Edward Said and Jeremy ben Ami and Noam Chomsky and Yassir Arafat.

What we need is a Secretary of Defense who understands that Hezbollah and Hamas are great friends to the United States, but that Israel needs a good ass-whooping so that it will stop building housing for its people in the city of Jerusalem... because, y'know, Jews building housing for themselves in the ancient Jewish capital city is an outrageous violation of the peace process and you cannot expect peace-loving Arabs to put up with such an intrusion on their sovereignty.

Ask Barack Obama, he'll tell you.  Obama understands that despite two thousand years of diaspora and persecution and pogroms and riots and expulsions, all leading to that rocking good time that Jews had in Europe in the middle of the twentieth century, that the Jewish state of Israel doesn't really, necessarily want peace because they have not explored their souls enough.

There wasn't enough soul-searching going on in Auschwitz... what with all the volleyball games and ping-pong tournaments, I guess.

Jews are apparently not introspective enough.  We have not done a thorough enough job of exploring our souls to Herr Sigmund Obama's satisfaction or to determine whether or not we want more Jihadis chopping the heads off of our three month old baby daughters.

Or so this insidious moron seems to think.

  1. C'mon. Obama, like so many before him likes his Jews to be dhimmis. It makes things so much easier.

  3. Jeez, Doodad, that's not a very politically correct thing to say.

You sound a little, ahhh, pissed-off.

Let's see if we can understand why.

So, you're a Jew and you know that for century upon century the Jewish people have gotten our collective asses kicked throughout the Middle East, not least of which by Arab-Muslim imperialists who took over our land and made us second and third class citizens within it, thus keeping our numbers artificially low.

Then, once we were freed after WWI, with the fall of the Ottoman empire, the Arab world launched an ongoing war against the Jewish minority which continues to this day and in which the "Palestinians" are the foremost Arab combatants, who claim Jewish land as their own even as they also steal Jewish history.

And, for some reason, your average "progressive," even your average "progressive Zionist," would blame you for your anger toward them.

    Does that sound about right?

  4. Mike, it's clear that you and I are simply not intelligent enough to figure out the advanced progressive reasoning behind the president's deep, hardcore 19th-dimensional chess move of talking up the appointment of a homophobic Hamas fan who speaks of "The Jewish Lobby" to become US Secretary of Defense.

Checkmate, Pat Buchanan! Or something like that, I guess...

    1. I suppose the threat here is, when someone else eventually gets the nod, something along the lines of "see what we could have done? now thank us and shut the fuck up."

It's like when a city's public transit agency threatens total elimination of weekend service (hello, TriMet!), and then in the end 'sucks it up' and 'only' drastically cuts service levels on all lines in increasing increments once or twice a year, every year, for the next five years, instead. 15 to 18 minute service here, one last-of-the-day bus moved up from 1 AM to midnight there. To show you what reasonable folks they are, after all.

Someone's maybe using Hagel to make a similar kind of point, I guess.

    2. Well Jay, it was either Hagel or David Duke. See?

    3. Heh. Well, I guess if nothing else, this whole episode kinda throws a wet blanket on the "but what about Pat Buchanan!" thing.

Ron Paul may be available too, I hear... ;)

    4. Heh, Jay. What floors me is that in ALL of America, Obama can't find one freaking qualified nominee who doesn't hate Israel. Like, there has to be ONE wouldn't ya think? But hey, maybe not. Maybe part of the qualifications is a hatred of Israel or even just a solid dislike. Things that make you go hmmmmmm???????

The link says it all. Hagel is chair of the Atlantic Council and they published an article dealing with Israel Apartheid. Welcome to Obama's second term.

  6. I have to say, I could hardly be more disgusted.

It's become a sort-of general condition for me personally.

I just walk around in perpetual horror and disgust.

  9. I'm guessing that Jay is probably right.

I do not think, ultimately, that Obama will even put forth Hagel's name as his nominee for Secretary of Defense.

I suppose the threat here is, when someone else eventually gets the nod, something along the lines of "see what we could have done? now thank us and shut the fuck up."

    Indeed.
