David Harris Gershon is racist towards his own people and spreads hatred toward Jews among non-Jews on progressive-left hate sites like Daily Kos.
It's fitting that he's written his most recent smear piece at a time when professor Barry Rubin has an op-ed entitled Not a Mistake, Misunderstanding, or Well-Intended Criticism But a Deliberate Campaign to Bash Israel.
Rubin writes:
The first, most important thing to understand about the Western and especially American debate on Israel is this:Gershon despises Israel and wants to see it destroyed which is why he deploys the "apartheid" defamation. The only people who call Israel "apartheid" are those who wish to see it gone, an eventuality that can only result in war and Jewish genocide.
Never before in history has there been such a concerted, systematic, and vicious campaign to discredit and demonize Israel, especially seeking to undermine its support in the Jewish community.
Without comprehending this fact, the massive attacks from academia, mass media, groups, and even in mainstream political and intellectual debate cannot be understood. We aren’t dealing with lots of mistakes but with the mass production of hate speech.
Left a comment at Tikkun Daily about the authors predilections.
ReplyDeleteIf only the same kind of concern was shown by this author with respect to the threats against Israel and Jews, not to mentioned other peoples that suffer far more than the Palestinians.
It is only against Israel, and sometimes America, that there is outrage.
The reality is that this author consistently adopts the Palestinian and Arab narrative that calls for an end to Israel and even the genocide of Jews, as if all the Jew hatred is a consequence of Jewish self-determination, which this author abhors.
Sorry, but someone has to say this. It is time for the enabling of anti-Jewish forces to be identified.
I was considering making a stink about this guy at the Times of Israel, but the downside, of course, is that he'd get additional attention.
DeleteMichael Lerner should be friggin' ashamed of himself.
No harm to point out his complete lack of any balance in adopting a view where Jews and Israel are at fault and those who call to exterminate Jews never are.
DeleteOr that the DKos cross-post brings forth a cavalcade of anti-Israel commentary spouting the line put forth by Jew haters, yet worse conduct by others is met with silence. The discriminatory treatment amounts to antisemitism by itself.
That there were virtually no comments to question the feigned outrage and imbalance that singles out Israel, nor toleration for anyone to point out the discrepancy and what it means, is evidence that nothing can be done but expose the reality of the situation.
The more that get to see the venom, the closer comes eradication of it and the credibility of those that falsely claim morality.
The Times of Israel reaches a wider audience
I shouldn't worry too too much that Lerner and Gershon and company claim to be Jews as if that lends them more authority. First off, it doesn't. Self hating is such an overused term - fair enough but there are plenty of Catholics who are anti Catholic and Russians who hate Russians and so on. Who cares? It makes no which matter either way. Secondly, and this is important - they're not really Jewish. Not really they aren't. Halachially they are but they deny THAT on its face. They're not more Jewish than I a second generation American am Russian, Belarussian or Polish. My thoughts on Russia are no more informed than anyone else's and carry no more weight than my opinions on Saipan or the South Pole. They're not Jews, they have no cultural affinity, they don't go to shul they didn't educate their children in fact they went out of their way to smash as many of the 613 mitzvot as they could think of. I was thinking this today and it ocurred to me that when talking about the assimilated as-a-Jews there's one constant that's as true now as it's always been since the inception of the Reform movement - - there are no 3rd generation Reform Jews. They all wind up Baptists, Buddhists, Atheists, Communists. The founder of Reform Judaism, Moses Mendelssohn - all of his grandchildren were baptized (the composer Felix Mendelssohn for instance). And it's as true now as it was 200 years ago. I myself know a third generation Baptist deacon named Elliot Rosenberg. So it's important to remember to wipe all that "Jews-of-conscience" nonsense off the table. It's meaningless dribble.
DeleteOne of the main reasons I took to the blogs about ten years ago now was my revulsion at "Jews" who identify as Jews solely for the purpose of attacking Israel and the Jews. Leaving "Jewishness" behind after being brought up Jewish is a personal choice that can not be criticised in a free society. A number of my family have done this. But then to turn around and attack Israel and the Jews, indeed say things that a non-Jewish critic of Israel would not dare say, is something seriously depraved.
DeleteAnd yet the key part to remember (or to know, if you aren't too familiar with this particular character) is that this guy actually (laughably) claims to be 'pro-Israel,' and has built his following and reputation off of that claim. That, and the fact that his wife was injured in the 2002 Hebrew University bombing. Which he'll never let you forget for too long.
DeleteHe's only beating Israel because he loves her so much, you see. And his 'experience' sitting in his Pittsburgh kitchen eating Cheerios, while halfway around the world terrorists tried to murder his wife simply for being Jewish, grants him some sort of 'moral authority' to push his agenda, you see.
This guy truly is one of the most insidious anti-Israel characters out there today, imo.
Just looked through it now. The guy sure knows all the right notes to hit to whip the antisemites into a frenzy.
ReplyDeleteDoes this joker still pretend to be 'pro-Israel,' I wonder? I'm sure he'd like to continue to pretend to be something other than yet one more as-a-Jew anti-Israel fanatic, as the benefits of the former are much greater. I suppose the best we can hope for is that good people finally begin to see through his little act, as comments like School's will help accomplish. When he inevitably begins writing for Electronic Intifada and 972 Mag in a year or so, at least he'll be real for a change...
I think it is fair to point out that these people oppose Jewish self-determination, while clamoring that everyone else have it, even at the expense of Jewish self-determination.
DeleteThat they fully adopt the narrative that blames Israel for everything bad, never other states or actors, and even calls for extermination of all Jews.
Not to mention the ignorance with respect to history, law, and current events, from the fact that the narrative is chock full of distortions and falsehoods one easily sees outside the confines of the Orwellian echo chamber in which they reside.
Concur, absolutely. People may not be allowed to point these things out at, for example, Daily Kos, without being banned, but fortunately speaking such truths is still possible elsewhere.
DeleteAnd also, here I thought when the diary's title began with a CAPS-LOCK "WITNESS," we were going to learn that he had branched out into reviewing old Harrison Ford films. But of course, as I should have known all along, it was simply more of his usual headline hysterics...
ReplyDelete"The guy sure knows all the right notes to hit to whip the antisemites into a frenzy."
ReplyDeleteExactly, and he does it regularly and lovingly. He may as well be named Adolph and have a "solution," in mind.
And, guys like him ultimately enable the kind of eventual hatred and violence which gets people killed; both Jew and Arab. No one should ever forget that "unintended consequence." Fools.
ReplyDeleteYup.
DeleteSee that's the thing.
The Arab-Muslim world has exhibited an extremely violent tendency toward Jews since the time of Muhhamed. In some times and places it was better and in some times and places it was worse, but it was always oppression. One thing that hasn't changed is that we have westerners, including even western Jews like Mr. Gershon, affirming their alleged reason for this violence and bigotry.
People like Gerson think that the reason the "Palestinians" generally despise Jews is because the Jews are mean, but this a lie. If it were true then throughout history, until 1948, the Arab majority would have treated the Jewish people in a decent manner, but they did not.
And saying so is no more racist than it is racist for a black person to speak honestly about the history of slavery. In fact, dhimmitude was a form of slavery.
But the day of the dhimmi is done.
Flush with his success at inciting the antisemites, the idiot graduates in his latest diary into an Israel firster accuser.
ReplyDelete"But when the hawkish, "pro-Israel" lobby in America can influence our representatives to sound as if they – well – are representing Israel's citizens more than our own?
We have a problem. A problem that must be discussed openly and honestly."
G-d knows what else lurks in his dark heart.

"G-d knows what else lurks in his dark heart.'
DeleteInternalized a world of crap, didn't he?
It's the nature of a dhimmi to see the Jews through anti-Semitic eyes.
DeleteNot the dhimmi, but the Leftist speaking, which accounts for the Israel firster garbage. What better way to show that one is committed to the cause of social justice, blind that Israel and America are bastions.
DeleteFair enough, although, as I imagine that you would agree, there is no mutual exclusivity between "Jewish dhimmi" and "Leftist" in today's political culture.
DeleteI have to say, tho, that the notion of the United States as a "bastion of liberty" is to me refreshingly new. Since I came to political consciousness I never thought of the US in such terms until very recently.
One of the results of my learning about left anti-Zionism has been a great increase in my respect and appreciation for the United States and for notions of liberty. I marched against the Iraq and Afghanistan wars dozens of times until I looked up that fine day and saw a Swastika entwined in a Star of David floating above my head at Civic Center SF.
It was quite a splash in the face... and then splashes kept coming.
"a Swastika entwined in a Star of David"
ReplyDeleteThat and a thousand other little clues emanate from these propagandizing Leftist Israel/Jew haters constantly. They are a clamorous choir of calumny. They make me sick.
That's why I like ya, Doodad.
DeleteYou're even more blunt than I am!
They make me sick.
:O)
David "Useful Idiot" Harris-Gershon says it all here -
ReplyDelete"Now, as a Jew"
I wonder if the very, very concerned author of this piece will also crosspost his latest piece, in which he dabbles in antisemitic ZOG conspiracy theories, at Tikkun?
DeleteHis words speak for themselves. Let's hope reasonable people will draw their own conclusions from someone who says things like -
"AIPAC [Jay's note - which actually chose not to fight the nomination, but let's not let that get in the way of Mr. H-G's chosen ZOG narrative] and the "pro-Israel" lobby's ill-founded concern about the Hagel nomination coupled by the lobby's disproportionate influence on our representatives to echo that concern."
A lesson in Daily Kos. Even the most tame pushback against yet another piece of antisemitic (this time he's crossed a very clear line, I think we can agree) incitement from this very practiced and well-known creator of hate storms is met with... well, let's just say, disapproval.
DeleteCompare the 9 troll ratings there with the 110 (and counting) uprates for a ZOG diary, and that pretty much tells you all you need to know about that hate site. The only difference between that diary and Stormfront is that David Harris-Gershon uses code words and phrases rather than outright neo-Nazi speech.
Why anyone with half a brain continues to participate there is far beyond me....
Go to Tikkun and expose this Jew hatred for the readers there.
DeleteOn the way there...
DeleteDone.
DeleteI figure I’ll post this link here, just in case this very, very concerned polemicist forgot to crosspost his latest thoughts on Israel and “The Jewish Lobby” here, where it might perhaps maybe be misinterpreted.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/02/04/1184647/-This-Is-Why-We-MUST-Talk-About-Israel
Folks can and will draw their own conclusion as to David Harris-Gershon’s motivations and ideas from the above link. My question is why does this gentleman have a platform such as this to push his poison?
I was tame, too. If that doesn't work, I suppose I can always unleash Nasty Sarcastic Prick Jay...
Delete;)
Heh, I seem to have not lost my touch. Just got home and saw that I pulled him into the comments. Replied to his reply.
DeleteHe's playing the persecuted victim, and my comment there including the link to his ZOG diary must have particularly stung, as it exposed him to anyone who reads the comments there as someone who tailors his message to specific audiences. Just as I thought, that diary from last night was something he'd never post at Tikkun, because it's clearly over the line even for them, but it was just fine to toss out as red meat to the antisemites at the hate site Daily Kos.
Oh the IRONY of this particular comment by one Mokurai in that dog's breakfast of a diary.
ReplyDelete"I'm sorry to have to tell you this, VB1, but you argue like a Republican."
Quite ironic, indeed.
DeleteRather than directing animus toward those who defend Israel, it would be nice to see a post about the antisemitism engaged in and fostered under the "progressive" moniker.
LOL I'm reading the newest comments on that POS diary and love the defense of the Troubadour by other "Jews," like Aunt Martha etc who hate the fact he was called an "antisemite," because he posted ZOG type stuff. He IS a fucking antisemite you asaJews!!!! A great big one. Kudos to those few who called him on it even if there is some rancour between them and us; or at least one of them and us.
ReplyDeleteMan I shoulda made some popcorn for all this. Bottom line is this:
Gershon, and those like him, are attempting to legitimize rhetoric that would otherwise be instantly recognizable as antisemitic in nature. He is not the first to do so; we saw similiar attempts by various pundits last year and of course, we see it at various "progressive," blogs and venues all the time. We know WHY it happens; weak arguments in the first place, allowing room for fellow travelers who ARE bonafide antisemites but help the anti-Israel cause, etc. Driving this little wedge in the discussion is a tactic; a nasty tactic, and it must be called out every time it happens.
This.

He's hilariously whining about being called an antisemite merely 'for criticizing Israel,' which of course he does no such thing. And that's not why he's being called an antisemite (I didn't call him that, but I don't necessarily think others who now do are wrong either, as he certainly fails Sharansky's 3D test). I call him a leading enabler of antisemites at places like Daily Kos, because he clearly is. If he doesn't like that, he shouldn't be doing it. Unlike his anti-Israel buddies, I don't just make shit up.
Shransky's 3D Test.
DeleteCriticism of Israel is anti-Semitic if it:
1) Demonizes the Jewish State.
2) Holds Israel to a double-standard.
3) Delegitimizes Israel.
Thanks, Jay,
this is good to hold in mind.
The key to the game is the title of his last diary...This Is Why We Must Talk About Israel. The implication is that something is wrong and the ultimate answer is the ZOG rhetoric....something we would expect from the far right but instead are now getting from, as Gershon says, " progressives – and all Americans, for that matter."
ReplyDeleteTypical scare tactics and proof that the worst Israel/Jew hate out there is increasingly from the left.
You would think he'd realize there's a problem when he has poisonous neo-Nazis like this regularly riding to his rescue. Of course, he doesn't care. That's not his problem. Buy his book and follow him on twitter!
DeleteIt's amazing that antisemites like that one not only dare show their face in Israel-related diaries, but that they are also clearly considered credible 'community members,' who can call for the purging of the very few remaining people there who do actually push back against garbage like that diary. One of whom has now been made 'NR,' apparently, which is the first step to banning.
Once they kick him out, I don't think that site will have anyone left anymore (well, at least not anyone with any credibility outside of that site) willing to stand up for it against charges of systemic antisemitism. Careful what they wish for...
"NR" means "no rate," I take it?
DeleteI'm not the least little surprised.
He'll probably get his banning, as well, sooner or later.
He stuck with 'em no matter what they said and now he's going to be the last one pushed out the door.
Yeah. That's what I got. It's essentially being declared a second-class citizen of the blog, and self-respect would seem to dictate that once one is manually determined by an administrator there to be a 'not-trusted' member of the 'community' (so-called), then that's when it's time to leave. Especially considering all the people who are considered more valuable and 'trusted' than the NR'ed person. I mean, think about it. Someone who calls for Hezbollah to obtain nuclear weapons is considered more valuable to that site's mission than the NR'ed people.
DeleteI was the very first person declared 'permanent NR,' is my personal claim to Daily Kos fame. ;)
Despite never even receiving a hidden comment. I was apparently determined to just be too hard to pin down for any real offense, but I was clearly one of the more annoying (to them) pro-I folks there, so I basically just got a 'fuck you, get out of here anyway' from the same site whose moderator once claimed the Nazis were a blip.
Apartheid dKos!!!!!! Nyuk nyuk.
DeleteHA! Another winner. I am definitely borrowing that phrase in the future...
DeleteThanks, Jay. Use it well and hope it drives the scumbags nuts.
DeleteI'm starting to think that I am one of the few people here who holds no particular animosity toward Markos Moulitsas.
ReplyDeleteI was also one of the few people at My Left Wing who didn't despise Markos.
Ah, here we go. Took a bit longer than I thought it would, but it was certainly inevitable...

The comments there are quite illustrative. Like this one (Doodad, you still have fans there!) in particular.
There is clearly no room whatsoever for... nuance (is that the right word?)... amongst the Daily Kos bigots, when it comes to anyone who is pro-Israel. We're all eeeeeeevil right wingers in the end! ;)
Jay, too bad when he left he did get to rant but he didn't get a chance to FLUSH.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I know.
DeleteYou'd actually think the more intelligent of the antisemites there, like the gloating little hate-filled scumbags FlySwatterBanjo and angry marmot, would be careful to clean up the mess which will surely get worse as the diary scrolls off the 'recent diaries' list, but in the end I think their hatred for volleyboy will win out over the benefit of ensuring that his ultimate point isn't proven right there in the comments.
As if we didn't have enough evidence. Compare the current three most recent diaries tagged "Israel," all conveniently written by The Useful Idiot -

Something smell a bit off there? One of those is not like the others. Clearly, 'peace' isn't as popular at Daily Kos as bashing Jews is.
Well, he does run a site where the pro-Jewish voice is treated with disdain, and speaking against Jew hatred not tolerated.
ReplyDeleteSomeone spoke up there:

Heh, I get an error message -
Delete"That discussion is awaiting moderation."
Well, no matter what else happened, I suppose Daily Kos can rest easily in knowing that they still have at least one wimpy ass-kissing dhimmi left...
ReplyDeleteI must admit that I'm at least somewhat surprised to learn that character's splayed worship of VB extends to lying, defaming and demonizing us even in that diary, of all places.
DeleteWhich I also note he didn't have the balls to rec or tip. Though I'm sure he made up for it elsewhere. Eye roll.
I won't even pretend that I understand the thought process there, aside from perhaps his need to prove that he's still somehow "One of the Good Ones."
I suppose one day, he'll eventually learn that we all look the same to those Daily Kos bigots in the end...
Oh, that and the fact that this particular character has a weird obsession when it comes to you. So maybe that's it. He's certainly never been able to provide proof for his sick smears. He and David Harris-Gershon would have quite a bit to talk about sitting in a tree, I suppose...
