Stand with the Settlers

Mike L.

{Cross-posted at the Times of Israel.}

In a brief recent piece from the Jerusalem Post by Khaled Abu Toameh entitled, Palestinian groups campaign against the peace process, we read:
Several Palestinian groups and figures on Sunday launched a campaign to demand that the Palestinian Authority halt peace talks with Israel.

At a press conference in Ramallah, the organizers of the campaign said that the PA leadership should "succumb to popular demands to stop the negotiations with the government of [Prime Minister Binyamin] Netanyahu."

The call for halting the peace talks came as PA President Mahmoud Abbas prepares to meet with US President Barack Obama on the sidelines of the Un General Assembly meeting in New York on Tuesday.
And just why do the Arabs refuse a peace deal?
According to the official, Abbas will complain to Obama about continued construction in the settlements and plans to build new housing units in some east Jerusalem neighborhoods.

"President Abbas will make it clear that Israel's policies are jeopardizing the peace talks," the official said.
This focus on Jewish towns and neighborhoods over the artificial "green line," which is to say, over the 1949 armistice line, as a reason to maintain violence against the Jewish people is racist on its face.  There is no reason in this world why Jews should not be allowed to live, and thus build, on historically Jewish land.

But when Barack Obama backs dictator Abbas up on this notion he is, himself, supporting race hatred toward Jewish people while undermining the possibility of a two-state solution.  When progressive-left Jews do so, like the owner of the now defunct Progressive Zionist blog, they do likewise and thereby promote harm to their own people.

Obama, however, would not likely have taken this view if American Jews made it clear to American politicians that Jews are going to live and build on Jewish land whether anyone likes it or not.  To insist that we must not be allowed to do so flies directly in the face of modern liberalism because the very notion is grounded in bigotry.

It would be like saying that Chinese people cannot be allowed to live, or build housing for themselves, in Kookamunga.  In fact, it's worse than that.  It would be like saying that Chinese people cannot be allowed to live, or build housing for themselves, in Jiangsu Province.

If anyone were to suggest such a thing they would immediately be castigated as a racist and a fool and, yet, the president of the United States, with the backing of many progressive-left Jews, honestly believes that he and Mahmoud Abbas have every right to tell Jewish people where we may, or may not, be allowed to live in our own homeland.

If we had stood up for our rights to begin with there is no way that Abbas could use the mere presence of Jews on Jewish land as an excuse not to make peace.

A Jew on Jewish land does not prohibit the possibility of yet another Arab state in the region unless one agrees with the Arabs that any such state must be Judenrein.

Again, if we do not care to stand up for our rights then no one else will do it for us... not even, apparently, most diaspora Jews.

  1. btw, this is one of my responses under this piece:

Historic Jewish land is just that, historic. If a current Israeli or his government wants that land it has to be acquired by legal means and with legal tender. If not, it's theft plain and simple. The other fact you ignore Mike is that people are not obligated to sell. Saying ,tough luck we need it for Jews is the cause of this fighting and always has been. The Nazis stripped Jews first of the citizenship( and declared them refugees), then they confiscated their property (beginning to sound familiar) and finally they killed them. You're one step away from being a true Nazi Mike."

Where do these nutjobs come from?

    1. Can you imagine?

The guy actually thinks that a Jewish person who supports other Jewish people living in the Land of Israel is something akin to a Nazi for nothing more than doing so and gets virtually no push-back.

This is where we are at now.

  3. " Hebron Jews can move into a building next to the spot where a Palestinian sniper killed an Israeli soldier on Sunday evening, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said just hours after the attack in a statement that spoke of the need to fight terror and support West Bank settlements.

His decision expands the Jewish areas of the West Bank city, and allows an Israeli civilian presence in a Palestinian neighborhood next to the Cave of the Patriarchs.

    ...

Just past midnight, Netanyahu said, “Those who attempt to uproot us from the city of our forefathers will achieve the opposite effect. We will continue on one hand to fight terror and to harm terrorists and on the other hand to strengthen settlements.”

Hebron’s Jewish community had purchased a three-story building across from the Cave of the Patriarchs, known as Beit Hamachpela, and moved at the end of March 2012. The IDF forcibly evicted them on April 4, because their purchase documents had not been authenticated and they lacked a purchase permit.

In July of this year, a military appeals court validated their purchase of the structure, which abuts a Palestinian school and borders a section of the city under Palestinian Authority control. Palestinians live in a small section of the building, which was not purchased by settlers.

But in spite of their court victory, the Hebron families were still barred from moving into their property, because they lacked a final signature of approval from Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon.

It is now expected that this signature will be forthcoming. "

  4. Palestinian survey on views
    http://www.pcpsr.org./survey/polls/2013/p49englishpressrelease.html

59% believe that the two-state solution is no longer practical due to settlement expansion and 36% believe it is still practical since settlements can be dismantled. Despite this finding, only 29% support a one-state solution in which Arabs and Jews enjoy equality; 70% oppose it.

  5. The Jewish fund purchase the land legitimately and has the deeds to anyone who wants to look. Mr Atkin seems confused on the point that invading Yesha in 1948 does not 'give' Jordan the right to hold it though apparently it did give them the right ethnically cleanse it of all Jews and destroy hundreds of synagogues and Jewish cemeteries and such, picking up from when they did it in 1929-45 in repeated pogroms and massacres against Jews. Mr Atkin seems ignorant of the fact that since about 1780 there have been four and only four national entities over Yesha, only three of them recognized as legitimate: the Ottomans, the British Mandate, and Israel. There has never been a 'palestine' to sell or deed title to anything or anyone.

  7. Having followed Khaled Abu Toameh for years, it was an absolute thrill for me to meet him last year when the Board of Deputies brought him out.

I heard him speak at a Community event but I also went to hear him again at Sydney University.

He's amazing. There was an aussie kid 'past the point of no return'. Truly brainwashed by the 'loony left' and an Arab girl, who had just returned from visiting Bethlehem.

She was angry about a few things. The way he answered and handled her was amazing and in the space of no more than 15 minutes he had her completely turned around.

What was great to see was the Jewish kids and how they befriended her after the session.Hopefully now she will have managed to speak with others about what they have been fed is incorrect.

    1. Khaled Abu Toameh, an Israeli Arab, is one of a few very rare non-Jewish journalists who is willing and honest and knowledgeable enough to stand up for the Jewish people and the Jewish state.

Italy's Giulio Meotti is another and Pilar Rahola, from Spain, is another.

If you guys know of any others that are currently writing please let me know.

I appreciate those people with all of my heart, but their numbers are far, far too small.
