Say Hello to "Israel Time"

Michael L.

JerusalemI have to say, I am not really much of a Facebook kind of guy.

In fact, Facebook scares me. I think of it as something akin to the Borg. Or, heck, maybe in the future the Borg will actually emerge out of Facebook!

Who the hell knows?

Nonetheless, there is what seems to be a young Israeli and / or Jewish woman who has launched a Facebook page entitled Israel Time.

Despite my ongoing wariness of Facebook, I am, nonetheless a creature of social media.

Thus, I introduce you folks to these folks.

The pro-Israel community is small, but we are connected.

Some may wish that we were less connected than we are... but nonetheless.

In any case, say hello to Israel Conseil, the proprietor of Israel Time.

I intend to drop in, although I think that her sensibilities are more cultural than mine, while mine tend to be more political.  I don't know, but I think that it is important for the pro-Israel community to be familiar with one another.

I suspect that she is an Israeli, while I, of course, am a diaspora Jew in the States.

    It's sad.

But this is Friday morning and I am being reflective, here on my perch in the Oakland hills.

Tonight Laurie and I are going up to the Chabot Space Center to see if we can't get a gander from one of those big scopes they have up there.

They have Leah, Rachel, and Nellie. I am particularly enamored of Nellie. I did not even realize that they named big telescopes. This one is a 36" reflector that can see deeply into the past.

No moon tonight, though, but some planets are always out. And with these instruments they can see far-off galaxies and nebulae.

Also, I am looking to purchase my first decent scope and I want to talk to some of those folks.

My old college buddy, a professional scientist, keeps recommending an 8" reflector... a Dobsonian.

In any case, I guess the reason that I am writing this is because I can barely even face what is going on in Jerusalem and Israel.

Given the nature of the never-ending Arab war, I simply do not see where the Israeli government has any choice but to crack down on these racist thugs. The US government went after the Ku Klux Klan after the Civil War. It was bloody and it was ugly and people got killed.

But they did it, because they had to.

When federal troops withdrew from the South in 1877 some later historians and critics called it The Great Betrayal because the minority black population was then subject to Jim Crow Laws, within the southern states, curtailing their freedoms and, in many case, essentially returning them to the status of slaves.

The essence of the Jewish fight with Muslims and Arabs in the Middle East is that they have never accepted Jewish independence for religious reasons embedded within the Koran.

This, it seems to me, needs to be the primary message that we give to people who do not necessarily have a dog in the fight, but who vote.

    1. I saw Saturn at Chabot once, back in the days when it was just Chabot Observatory. Incredible. No moon means you should be able to see better into space. Have fun! Wish I was going!

As for the situation going on in Israel right now, I had a very bad day yesterday just thinking about that. Kerry is absolutely worthless. I know Vietnam vets who just hate the guy, vets who were there for 14 months, (not 4 like Kerry), who fought in the TET Offensive and lost buddies. The first president I can remember was JFK. Since that time I've seen them come and go, and was always upset when the Republican candidate won. But the worst president I have ever seen is...do I even need to say it?
This guy champions the PLO, relations with Cuba, Iran, and did a reset with Russia. Three of the four are now fighting in Syria, and the PLO is back to terrorism. And John Kerry is his SOS. There's something very 1970's college radical chic about all this, and it's not going to end well.

      Indeed.
      And it's all rather frightening.

  3. Mike, Jeff,
I think you might find both links I posted on the "Jewish values" thread interesting.

    1. k,
I read the Hurry Up Harry article, thank you. It took him a long time to come round. I used to be that guy when I was a tender 23 years old. I was living in a building in Oakland, CA and I had a neighbor, a young woman who was Jewish. One day I head her practicing Hebrew and I asked what it was all about. She told me she was doing it because she was moving to Israel. I just couldn't understand it. I told her off. I said stupid things lie "What, America's not good enough for you?". I was an idiot questioning her decision to live her life as she saw fit. I hurt her feelings, but didn't put a dent in her beliefs. She was secure in her beliefs. She knew who she was, whereas I had no idea who I was. That was a long time ago. It was a couple of years after that that the bigoted discourse of narrow minds I heard around me got me to start asking questions.

Learning the truth about all this took a long time as I clung to my own need for acceptance amongst the terminally hip. Anyway, that's for another time.

I also read the link at Tablet. Very good.
I will not visit Electronic Infantada. If you would like to give me, us, the gist, fine, but I refuse to visit that site.

    3. Hi Jeff.
Don't blame you for not wanting to visit E.I.
I didn't. I got the article via a link from someone on twitter whom I respect.
The "gist" is, that - and the article was written by the person who started the site- that Obama's position, as evidenced by the people he admired etc,was almost totally in favour of the Palestinians. And, as with some other issues, he understood that to get elected he had to pretend to have support for things he didn't and to play down his real views. In some sense, the article presents him as "selling out.". I don't like to credit E.I. or the people who write there, but the article was written in 2007 and it rings true. It also suggests that it will be very important to persuade Obama to come back to his preferred position during his time in office
And to build on that, particularly as far as the Palestinian cause goes.

  4. "Just as hundreds of thousands of Muslims are arriving in Germany at the invitation of Chancellor Merkel, the publication of Mein Kampf will resume after decades of suppression. And it will be Merkel’s government that is paying for the publishing. William Bigelow of Breitbart reports:

Mein Kampf, Adolf Hitler’s malevolent and malignant anti-Semitic manifesto, will be sold in German bookstores starting in January. The Munich-based Institute of Contemporary History (IFZ), funded by the German government, has edited an annotated version of the book, and will publish it after the copyright held by the German state of Bavaria expires in January 2016."

    1. Doodad,
It's really difficult, I know. As Mein Kampf has come out of copyright restrictions, it has been available to buy. My - lovely and brilliant - local independent bookshop has a copy on its shelves. I believe that Mein Kampf is also a bestseller on Amazon. Although, it seems most popular as an E-book. People are curious about it but seem to prefer reading it in a surreptitious fashion. There are areas of London where you can buy it and the Protocols in languages other than English. It's the price you pay for living in a free society.
It is, of course, interesting to know whether the availability of the book will have any particular impact in Germany considering the changing times and demographics. I would imagine that many people arriving in Germany as refugees from the Middle East, are already familiar with the content. It does seem that that part of the world is fairly steeped in it. Sadly. Very.
We should all be concerned. I agree.
