Y'know, as I write this it is 7:30 on a cloudy and cool morning and Laurie is still crashed out with the insidious mutts. I remember when I was in college and people would sing this song at keg parties during the Reagan years when I was at UCONN. I knew at the time that they didn't quite get the lyrics, but this tune became representative of patriotism. And, I gotta tell ya, I think that's fine. I do not think that this tune is anti-American. I think that it incorporates criticism of the US with love of home.
I just never understand what he's saying. Being a musician, people think I'm a snob, but I never tell anyone what they should or shouldn't like, although I can stand death metal. Springsteen's O.K. I wouldn't stand on the boardwalk in Asbury Park, NJ and shout "he sucks!" I want to live. I love Cagney doing Yankee Doodle Boy. Not everyone's cup of apple pie, but I dig it!

seeing as this is the one large country in the "global north" which treated Jews nicely, damn proud to be an American! Plus Columbus was a crypto-Jew converso (alleged), hence why I will defend him.
