When did the progressive-left become the new Right?

Michael Lumish

It's interesting how much today's culture of the American left-wing resembles yesterday's culture of the American right-wing.

In the 1950s, the Right tended to be authoritarian. Today it is the Left that tends to be authoritarian.

In the 1950s -- leaving Buckley and the National Review aside -- the Right tended to be considerably more racist than the Left.

Today, the American Left is openly racist in the name of "anti-racism" even as it has the warm fuzzies for the most outrageously racist political movement in the world, which is political Islam.

In the 1950s, the Right was far less enamored of freedom of speech compared to the Left. Today those positions have reversed.

I cannot tell you how ridiculous and weird it is to watch left-leaning students and faculty at UCAL Berkeley rail against freedom of speech in the very home of the Freedom of Speech Movement of the early 1960s.

{Where are you Mario Savio when we need you?}

In any case, these are among the reasons that I have left the Left and the Democratic Party and am now a proud independent.

  1. I was just watching Joe Biden give a speech as I saw Kamala Harris the other day. I must be a liberating feeling for a candidate to say any lie against your opponent and have a wide swath of the media, rather than call you out, back the lies.
Biden called for Trump to call off his violent right wing militias who are apparently in some dream reeking havoc in America's cities as we speak. Yes, he really said it.

Every mistep by a local police officer in a Democratic stronghold is also because of Trump. There was also no rioting over the police before Trump. Ferguson, anyone?
And the final pitch is that none of the bad stuff will end unless America votes the way we tell you. That's the Democrat Party in 2020.

Of course, Biden came up from his basement to decry violence immediately after seeing the polls slip. What a guy. You can trust him to tell the truth, because he graduated in the top of his class.

  2. Anyway, Mike, your point is well taken. We have been witnessing the rise of the authoritarian, illiberal, racist and antisemitic left in the United States of America. And I believe, they are going for total and permanent power. They hate this country and its founding.
Joe Biden is having a temper tantrum run for president born from his own failures as a politician/leader. He's not even aware of what's going on. He sounds like an angry old guy past his prime. But the press, which at one time practiced journalism, will carry water for him and Harris. BTW, when I first heard of her I was quite curious about her, thinking from the great press she was getting that she might be something special. After her roll out and hearing her speak, I was more convinced than ever that the news media as presently constituted needs to be dismantled and completely rebuilt from the ground up. She is awful. Awful on policy. Awful personality. Awful campaigner. And should never be near the levers of power. I can't stand her. And that Biden picked her is an indictment of his bad judgment, IMV.
Unfortunately, we now have a power identity movement in this country who think picking her for her sex ("gender") and skin color is supercalifragilisticexpealidocious.

  3. "More than 600 Jewish groups signed a full-page New York Times ad in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

“We are Jewish organizations and synagogues from across the racial and political spectrum; from different streams of Judaism; whose members trace their lineage from countries around the world,” states the group in the ad.

“We speak with one voice when we say, unequivocally: Black Lives Matter.”

    1. Yeah, right. Always a big splash with the numbers. 600 Jewish organizations. Many with the same two members. And let's not forget the 57 Communists at the State Department, while we're at it.
Where did they get that number though? 600 like 6,000, like 6,000,000 maybe?
Now, I know that exactly 100 Jews financed the video that triggered the Benghazi attack. Obama wasn't kidding about blaspheming the founder of Islam in his UN speech. The strangest thing I ever saw a president do, and yet to this day meshuga Left leaning Jews love the guy.

BLM has been steadfast through each and every hoax it has perpetrated. Sooner or later they figured they'd hit pay dirt. And if you check you'll find that a good deal of the time when they say black lives matter they in fact mean that white ones don't. The first few Jews they kill will be explained away by liberal Jews, but after a while it will become apparent what is really going on.

Still we should build bridges with black people where ever possible, but not by being supine.

  4. Even if the right was as indicated, it was pro-America. Therefore, the progressive left is much different in it's orientation, and a much greater threat, as we see them try to tear down the country and the system.

  5. So nice to see Biden meet with Mr. Blake, an authentic antisemite, among other things. Especially after Biden claimed that Trump legitimizes a dark side of human nature.

  6. When did the progressive-left become the new Right?

Gee, I don't know, but a clue can be found in one of the last scenes of "Judgment At Nuremburg" when Spencer Tracy goes to visit Burt Lancaster in his prison cell.

  8. Kosovo to recognize Israel, Serbia to relocate embassy to Jerusalem.

Will be ignored, just like the Israel-UAE peace deal.

More important to report that Trump hates the military, according to likely sources, but is the Peace Prize a legitimate consideration?

    1. Likely sources? The usual suspects.

Another unsourced "If true, then..." b.s. story. The media giving Joe Biden an "issue" to talk about, while "barely containing" his anger. What a joke.

    2. For shifting the dynamic in the Middle East, and now for Yugoslavia, not to mention not starting any conflicts, he should get strong consideration in Norway.

Apparently, over 700 military and former military have signed a letter in support of Trump. What amazes is how quickly some people will believe anything, especially unproven things, then lecture others about use of conspiracy theories. Then again, these same lecturers took "Dreams of My Father" as gospel truth.

  9. "At the direction of President Trump, the White House Office of Management and Budget will move to identify and eliminate any trace of “critical race theory” in the federal government.

Critical race theory is the leftist, racist doctrine that forms the intellectual underpinnings of Black Lives Matter, Antifa, and other radical organizations currently engaged in unrest on America’s streets.

It alleges, among other things, that the United States is a white supremacist country, and that all white people are guilty of racism, whether they intend it or not.

President Trump has brought the issue of far-left indoctrination to the forefront of the national conversation in recent months. It was a major theme of the President’s Independence Day speech at Mt. Rushmore, in which he condemned far-left theories that “defame our heroes, erase our values, and indoctrinate our children.”

Too late to save America or not?

    1. There is another term which captures the essence of so-called critical race theory. Let's call it what it is, namely, pseudo scientific race theory. You want Nazis? We got Nazis.

Then we have "This is Joe Biden, and I approved this message" going to Kenosha to kiss the brass ring of race "martyr" Jacob Blake's disgusting father, a fine and sterling example of what kind of assholes the theory provides with excuses for hate and for their own abysmal failures.

Some good news for Trump: I just spoke with an old friend I haven't seen in almost 40 years. A hippie for sure and Oregonian since the 1970'. She told me last night that she couldn't tell any of her friends but she is voting for Trump, because of the whole Democrat tacit and even explicit approval for burning down our cities and defunding the police. Even people who dedicate half their lives to making pottery and doing displays at arts & crafts fairs all over the west coast don't want cities to burn, criminals released from prison and police departments decimated. If this woman is voting for Trump it means a lot!
She is disgusted with the Democratic Party.

    2. She says she now sees Democrats as liars who never keep their promises, and she finally listened to some Trump speeches without the MSM filters and liked what she heard, and told me that when she watches Trump speak on NBC, ABC, etc., they edit everything to make him seem like a jerk. This is a woman who grew up around where I grew up. Staunch Democrat.

    3. It's up in the air whether or not the media and big tech manipulation will be effective or overcome.

The loudest critics of Trump seem to know least about him. Too lazy to find out for themselves. Much like those fed anti-Israel propaganda.

    4. "Much like those fed anti-Israel propaganda."

The similarities are stunning and all too familiar to those of us in the pro Israel camp.
Even my friend who has no connection to the Israel issue (she's not Jewish) knows where she agrees and disagrees with Trump policies, but sees the Democrats as the much larger threat and a vessel for nutty and dangerous ideas.

    6. Quoted your friend at another site in response to a piece by a Democratic talking head asking when Trump supporters will see him for what he is. As if this talking head knows.

One person thought it was spot on, and then a Trump hater asserted it was from a paid troll. The ignorance of these haters is astounding, yet predictable. They get so angry at the drop of a hat.

  10. How the hell is Leila Khaled even allowed entry into the US? How is she even able to travel by air after being a hijacker?

    ReplyDelete
  11. It was a complete surprise. That's why I am hopeful. Then again, the MSM/big tech is putting its thumb heavily on the scale. In so many ways we have already lost our country. If these forces are successful subverting American democracy so completely for their own ends, why would they ever stop?

Another fear, if Biden should "win," is the right wing reaction. The elite and Left are being so obvious about what they are doing that things could get even uglier than we see now. One thing I would expect is more antisemitism. Once the Dems can make a go of a successful majority with antisemites and anti-Zionist hustlers as endorsed and embraced members within their ranks, the door is open for anyone to do the same.

The Left and the Democrats are great at sowing division and finger pointing. On the news yesterday a spokesperson for the Biden campaign was asked about a vaccine being ready before the election and her answer was to say "Who's gonna get it first," casting aspersions that the "wrong" people would and more "deserving" "groups" would not.
They have descended into something evil and disgusting.

Has anyone seen a Facebook "correction" in Trump's favor yet? Just asking.

  12. I just got in trouble for disagreeing that "powerful Democratic women" shouldn't be held to the same standard as everyone else. Turns out that expecting them to play by the same rules is "right wing".
And I was told that by someone with the caps lock on. Very impressive! lol
