Israel and Turkey Are Playing Footsie

According to Turkish media reports, Low-flying Israeli warplanes and helicopters "harassed" a Turkish ship exploring for natural gas reserves near Cyprus on Thursday night.

Today's Zaman, citing accounts in Turkish daily Vatan and Greek Cypriot daily Phileleftheros, reported that two F-15 jets took off from Tel Aviv and flew through the airspace of both Greek Cyprus and Turkish-controlled northern Cyprus. The jets reportedly ignored warnings from officials of Turkish Cyprus.

According to the report, Turkey sent two F-16 jets to track the Israeli F-15s, which subsequently returned to Israel.

The report added that an Israeli military helicopter flew over the Turkish seismic research ship the Piri Reis, exploring for gas off of Cyprus's southern coast.

Turkey said on Tuesday it was exploring for gas in an offshore zone where Cyprus started drilling last week, a step that could escalate a dispute over Mediterranean resources.

So?

Should I lose any sleep over this one?

What do you guys think?

This is the Progressive-Left

Palestine has always been a multi-ethnic, (2+ / 0-)

multi-faith place, generally ruled by other people.

What's new, and definitely artificial, about the State of Israel is that it's an attempt to create a racially pure state in a place where there never was one before.

Truly the destruction of the earth only results from the destitution of its inhabitants, and its inhabitants become destitute only when rulers concern themselves with amassing wealth. Caliph Ali, 7th century

by SadieB on Thu Sep 29, 2011 at 06:43:33 AM PDT

Israel and the Jewish people are among the most ethnically diverse countries and peoples on the face of the planet, yet Sadie here is basically accusing Israel of Nazism, of a desire for ethnic purity, despite the fact that the Jewish people come in every human color imaginable.

But the point is, this is the progressive-left.

If you care about Israel and the well-being of the Jewish people then you must face this kind of harassment on a daily basis, if you wish to participate on the left.

It is not, as School likes to remind us, that the left is crawling with vicious anti-Semites. It's not. In fact, as a general rule the left is far more "Islamaphobic" than it is anti-Semitic.

Their racism toward Islam takes the form of condescension, i.e., treating Muslims and Arabs as little children who are never responsible for their own behavior.  Sadly enough, some Muslims and Arabs, like, say, the Unspeakable One and Soysauce, actually prefer this treatment.  They like being patted on the head and given treats.  I find it grotesque, but that's just me.  That's the way I treat Fred and Snort, not fully grown, allegedly responsible human beings.

The way they treat us is to simply stand on the sidelines and watch as we are perpetually forced to defend ourselves and then, needless to say, blame us for aggression.

But, what can I say?

You guys have a terrific Rosh Hashanah.

Hey Anonymous

I very much appreciate you guys who participate here, but I wish that people would assign themselves screen names.

Posting as "Anonymous" is not so great.

I am glad that you post, but I wish it was as a person with an identity of some sort.

Just sayin.'

Assaf is a Fool and an Enemy to the Jewish People

But what had created Israel? A 2000-year memory. (4+ / 0-)

That is the diary's main message. And you are not addressing it in your comment.

Memories create nothing.

Israel was built by the hard work over many years of Jewish people working that land and building the infrastructure (political, economic, and material) necessary to create a country.

Between the end of the nineteenth century and 1948 Jews built that country from virtually nothing.

Blood. Sweat. And Tears.

Furthermore, it was not a matter of 2,000 year old memories, but the living experience of millions of Jews under the history of oppression, exile, and diaspora.

Assaf should consider moving to France.

The World's New Jews

Assafiban (so named because of his tendency to call for bannings and generally acting like the Taliban) has found the New Jews. Who are they? Palestinians of course. Look at this conversation.

Sorry Assifiban; massive fail. But at least we can see that you have adopted your Palestinian buddies' favorite habit of stealing Jewish history and culture. I don't imagine that brainwash took too long. Small things wash fast.

At least his self serving Israel hating diary got this stellar response form dhonig

I am done with I/P (1+ / 0-)

and I hope it gets banned on dKos.

I have ZERO doubt that soysauce intentionally posted his diaries on Rosh Hoshannah with the intention of keeping discussion as one-sided as possible.

If we have reached a point where people who claim to be advocating in good faith take actions such as that, then I have no interest in participating, or associating with the people who do so.

For those who treated I/P as a team sport, to the point that you thought yesterday was the day to play, I would like to wish you enlightenment, but I believe you to be beyond redemption. For those who participated in these discussions in good faith, I wish you well at the same time I wonder why you continue.

As for the comments in the diaries, such as the claim there is no such thing as a Jewish People, as well as the hearty back slaps that followed, they will be the death of Daily Kos. I/P has turned into an ugly cesspool that allows comments that would not be accepted for a split second with any other discussion. Note, please, that the prior statement was not one-sided.

Done with politics for the night? Have a nice glass of wine with Palate Press: The online wine magazine.

Great going dhonig. Even though the comments about no such thing as the Jewish people got hidden, they appeared and were backslapped as dHonig says and the reason for that is the constant hateful anti-Israel diarying that goes on. It creates the playing field and when an "asaJew," like Assafiban says that:

"the fact remains that as recently as the mid-19th Century, less than 1% of the world's Jews lived in what is now Israel-Palestine. And even this small population did not speak one single language or see itself as the seed of a modern nation. btw, they were also a small fraction (<5%) of I-P's overall population," he invites the kind of foul comments dhonig talks about. But I don't expect any of the usual suspects to see any of that; that's not what they are all about. And what they are all about is foul; most foul indeed. So yes, I believe dhonig is right when he accuses the foul soysauce of waiting until Rosh Hoshannah to post her diaries. It's how they do things.

Does "Soysauce" Hate the Palestinian People?

In a recent diary about why it is necessary for Palestinians to reject Israel as a Jewish state, she writes:

The crux of the Palestinian issue is the fate of the millions of refugees who were exiled from their homes during the creation of Israel. The right of return for these refugees is a major pillar of Palestinian aspirations for a just resolution to the conflict with Israel. Recognizing Israel as Jewish state would mean renouncing the internationally recognized right of Palestinian refugees to return.

Millions?

Millions of Palestinian refugees were exiled from their homes during the creation of Israel, were they?

Is that a fact?

Soysauce, you are either a liar or simply not competent to speak on this subject.

There were not millions of Palestinian refugees "who were exiled from their homes during the creation of Israel."  In fact, there was not even millions of Palestinians, period.  There was around seven hundred thousand Arab refugees and a similar number of Jewish refugees over time from Arab and Muslim violence against Jews. Anybody who knows anything about the ongoing Arab war against the Jews knows this.

This is not in dispute.  But the implication of what you write is that there were millions of displaced Palestinians and you know it.

Also, of course, those numbers are entirely dwarfed by the numbers of Hindu and Muslim refugees from the India / Pakistan partition which resulted in slaughter by the millions.  The Arab attempt to kill the Jews was a picnic in comparison.

More importantly, however, if "justice" can only be served by robbing Jewish people of sovereignty on Jewish land then we do have a little problem, now don't we?

This is the same "justice" that the Arabs of the mandate wanted in November of 1947, when they launched a genocidal civil war against the Jews directly after the Holocaust.

And, of course, the only possible way to get there will be via a war against the Jews of the Middle East. Of course, since the Arabs have been continuously at war against the Jews in the Middle East since at least the 1920s, it doesn't seem to me that she is proposing anything new.

In truth, what she is calling for is the reinstatement of dhimmitude on the Jewish people.

What else can robbing us of self-determination and self-defense via a Jewish state mean?

She essentially calls for war and labels it "justice."

But, really, all she is doing is dooming the Palestinians to decade upon decade of misery.  I find it sad and wretched, but not so much for my people.

The Jews are doing great. I mean, real good economy in Israel. Strong military. Hi Tech.  Even a recent discovery of potentially large quantities of oil.

Upstart Nation.

Good for them.

The Palestinians on the other hand are fucking themselves up entirely because they simply will not allow us to live in peace. If they want peace they can have it, but they need to be peaceful. Unless they are peaceful, then there will not be peace.

It's entirely up to them at this point.

But whatever they choose, we'll be fine. It's really a choice between Palestinian poverty and misery or Palestinian normalcy and potential prosperity. I recommend the latter and soysauce chooses the former.

And she's considered the pro-Palestinian one?

Ho. Ho. Ho.

She would have them fight and die to the very last Palestinian in order to fulfill her ideological agenda.

I would have them stop fighting and, instead, start writing software, or start building bridges, and create decent lives for themselves and their families.

Get with the contemporary world.

And please stop teaching your children to hate Jews.

That's all.

Fatah Central Committee Member Abbas Zaki Calls Netanyahu and Obama "Scumbags"

and Says: "The Greater Goal Cannot Be Accomplished in One Go"

Al-Jazeera TV (Qatar) - September 23, 2011 - 01:49

A Tip 'O the Kippa to Barry Rubin.

They tell us on more or less a daily basis that their goal is not peace next to Israel but the annihilation of the Jewish state.

Does the progressive-left care?

You would never know it by reading their material, that much is certain.

I tell you guys, if and when the time comes and we need to look around for our friends, do not expect the progressive-left as a group to among them.

If they cannot even bring themselves to stand with us when it costs them nothing then for sure they will not be with us if the time comes when we actually need them.

Again, we need to be clear about just who our friends are and who they are not.

So long as we keep telling ourselves that our friends are our enemies and our enemies are our friends, then we haven't a chance if things get sticky.

Dueling Dkos Diaries

In all the world there is only one Jewish state. One! Yet many on the left want to see it disappear. Israel hater soysauce sure does in her diary, Why Won't Palestinians Recognize Israel as a Jewish State?. And the comments show she has lots of support among Kossacks with 183 recommends. 183!!!!!! That should tell you something. Here's the wall of shame for that:

DIARY RECOMMENDED BY

Then along comes fizziks with his diary Why Israel Should Be A Jewish State.

He gets 21 recommends. The numbers don't lie. Pretty damning proof of Karma's theory, I'd say. Fizziks, of course, makes an excellent point about why the Democratic party needs to divest itself of progressive leftists like these.

one shouldn't have to be brave (12+ / 0-)

to articulate the mainstream Democratic position on a Democratic website.

The two state solution, with Israel as the Jewish state, is in the position of the Democratic Party platform, President Obama, and every single major Democratic elected official in the country.

Those who recommended fizziks, well they are the real Democrats here. The others are haters and traitors to the Democratic party. They need to be purged along with their hateful agendas.
