UN Chief Practices His Irony

Doodad

Irony: a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Tuesday called on Lebanon’s government to disarm Hezbollah, saying it posed a threat to the UN peacekeeping mission stationed on the Israel-Lebanon border.

First, might I say, a little late don't you think UN? UN Security Council Resolution 1701 happened in 2006. Hezbollah has been breaking it since almost the beginning, building its military strength, gaining actual seats in the Lebanese government and since 2016,

"Hezbollah has had de facto veto power on political decisions despite being a minority stakeholder in the political process. The once-formidable authority of the position of the Lebanese Sunni prime minister does not exist now without Hezbollah’s consent, and the current Christian president, Michel Aoun, is an ally of Hezbollah."

IOW's, Hezbollah IS the government of Lebanon and the UN wants the government to de-arm them. ROFLMAO.

  1. Hitler’s crimes against the Jews
    have been frequently justified
    in Arab writings and pronouncements.

In the 1950s, Minister Anwar Sadat
published an open letter to Hitler,
hoping he was still alive and
    sympathizing with his cause.

Important Arab writers and political figures
have said Hitler was “wronged and slandered...”

Or that Hitler wanted to “save...
the world from this malignant evil...”

Barghouti neglects to mention the role of the Palestinian leadership during the 1930s and 1940s, who had formed an alliance with the Nazi regime in general and Adolph Hitler in particular.

The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin Al-Husseini, collaborated with the Nazis to prevent Jewish refugees from seeking sanctuary in what became Israel.

He was instrumental in having Jews, who were on their way out of Europe, sent to death camps.

After the war, he was declared a war criminal for recruiting thousands of Muslim Yugislavs to murder Jews in Croatia and Hungary. Despite his Nazi collaboration – or perhaps because of it – he became and remained a hero to most Palestinians, many of whom hung his picture in their homes.

He helped design an Arab fez adorned with a Swastika that his Palestinian followers wore (I saw that fez in a private collection of Nazi-Arab memorabilia).

Following the Holocaust, Al-Husseini received asylum in Egypt, where he organized other German Nazis to help in efforts to destroy Israel.”

  5. There's been a stabbing attack on London bridge. I blame those trying to rein in Labour's antisemitism. If they could vent, they wouldn't need to stab.

  8. UN Leader Ban Ki-moon, in Departing Speech,
Admits Anti-Israel Bias at World Body

(JNS.org) United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who is stepping down at the end of the year, acknowledged in a departing speech that there is “disproportionate” bias against Israel at the world body.

"We must never accept bias against Israel within U.N. bodies,” Ban said Friday.

Ban went on to admit that the U.N. has a "disproportionate volume of resolutions, reports and conferences criticizing Israel,” and that "in many cases, rather than helping the Palestinian cause, this reality has hampered the ability of the U.N. to fulfill its role effectively."

Israeli Ambassador to the U.N. Danny Danon commended Ban’s statement and noted the disproportionate number of anti-Israel resolutions passed at the U.N. in recent years.

"The secretary-general admitted the clear truth — the U.N.’s hypocrisy towards Israel has broken records over the past decade. During this time the U.N. passed 223 resolutions condemning Israel while only eight resolutions condemning the Syrian regime as it has massacred its citizens over the past six years. This is absurd," said Danon.

At the same time, Ban urged Israeli lawmakers to reconsider the controversial outpost bill, which would legalize Israeli settlements on private Palestinian land.

"I strongly urge legislators to reconsider advancing this bill, which will have negative legal consequences for Israel and substantially diminish the chances for Arab-Israeli peace," Ban said.

  9. Does the United Nations (U.N.) discriminate against Israel?

“Israel is the ONLY U.N. state not permitted to be a full member of any of the U.N.’s five regional groups.

Throughout the Human Rights Council sessions, these groups hold key planning meetings in which countries negotiate and share important information behind closed doors.

Even the Palestinian Authority, though not a state, is permitted into the Asian regional group.”
