Denmark: Jews warned not to wear religious symbols

Amid rising anti-Israel sentiment, Israeli envoy warns Jews in Copenhagen to keep low profile; in Spain, embassy fights back against boycott

After facing an onslaught of anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli incidents recently, Israeli officials in Denmark and Spain have decided to call for precautionary measures.

Israeli and Jewish officials in Denmark on Wednesday warned Jews to avoid openly wearing religious symbols and dress when moving about Copenhagen amid rising anti-Israeli sentiment.

"We advise Israelis who come to Denmark and want to go to the synagogue to wait to don their skullcaps until they enter the building and not to wear them in the street, irrespective of whether the areas they are visiting are seen as being safe," Israel's ambassador to Denmark, Arthur Avnon, told AFP.
Do you see our "progressive" friends speaking out against rising international anti-Jewish racism, because I sure do not.

They don't care and they've never cared.  They didn't care during World War II and they do not care today.  Israel is on its own and the hyper-critical Jewish left just gives her enemies additional fodder with which to smack her in the face.

  1. Nope, they say nothing. In fact, when I diaried about antisemitic incidents right here at home a few times on my way out of a certain Big Orange shitpile a year or so ago, I was told that in fact these incidents were not what they seemed, and anyway if there is a rise in antisemitic incidents anywhere in the world, we should seek to 'understand' it as a natural response to whatever Israel is doing at any given moment.

For instance, the 2011 incident in which Jewish teens were pelted with eggs in Lakewood, New Jersey, the city where I was born? That should be 'understood' as merely reasonable criticism of Israel's policies carried out by peace-loving progressive political activists. See? It's very simple to 'understand' and explain away these things, when we reasonably assess them within the context of there being a place called Israel, which is to blame for everything bad and wrong in the world today. To some people, at least...

    1. Precisely.

They honestly believe that we... or at the very least our family in Israel... deserve a good ass-kicking because we're allegedly mean to the innocent Palestinians.

And yet they still expect our political support.

  2. I like JNEREBEL's apparent new series at Daily Kos, but of course it would be nice if those diaries could get even 1/20th the support and attention the typical Useful Idiot "Israel Suxx, please love me, and do you remember that my wife was attacked once well I'm writing a book about it and Israel still SUXX and follow me on twitter or I'll go numb!" diary gets.

I also inevitably expect one of them to eventually be declared a serious 'misstep' if this continues, followed by immediate summary banning for whatever the horrible thought crime ends up being - perhaps a link to JPost or TOI will result in excoriation for relying upon 'right-wing sources,' or something like that. After all, he's already being accused of 'dehumanizing and demonizing' Palestinians. By pointing out simple facts about Hamas. How's that humanitarian racist thing working out for this AoT character, I wonder?

  3. Good for JNEREBEL, BUT.....of all the things that Palestinians do this is a pretty innocuous example. Of course, it probably won't get anyone banned whereas, telling the truth about all the bad stuff might. Kossacks don't wanna hear bad stuff about those cuddly lil Palestinians. It gets in the way of hating Israel.

In the news industry they say "if it bleeds it leads." At dKos there's a bizarro world take on that...."Only if ISRAEL does it, it leads."

    1. Yeah, that's the thing. Where's 'the line?' My feeling is it probably isn't too far from stories like this, actually. Sooner or later you're sure to run up against The Conventional Wisdom there, and as you note, anything that goes against the cuddly bunny narrative is unwelcome and unwanted. They know The Truth, darn it!

  4. “Manzar Foroohar, a professor connected to the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, has been selected to chair a committee aimed at combating anti-Semitism in the California State University (CSU) system."

Uh, you can't make this stuff up.

    1. Well, you could make it up. But nobody would believe you. ;)

      Fact is stranger, etc etc...

  5. It's about time somebody said it!

"If I were President I would select someone who was less subservient to Israel than Kerry has been. IMHO a large part of America's problems in the Middle East derive from indulging Israel to the point of absurdity. A Secretary of State who was more independent of the Israel lobby would be preferable."

How brave 'native' is. They're my new hero.
