Well, we are burning up the open thread and that's good so I thought I'd do something a little different. I'm a dual citizen; born American/moved to Canada as a child so I get to celebrate both holidays which are only days apart. This year we are going to the actual local firework display because a well known Canadian Blues Musician is playing: Colin James. And my grand daughter is in Portugal representing Canada in the Dance World Cup so I'll be streaming some of that and generally enjoying the hot weather. Hope your 4th is spectacular!
Canadians have a reputation for being a nice, polite people. Some of that is true as this pic illustrates.
Ah, hot summer weather calls fro some ice milk, eh?
ReplyDelete(I've been to Canada exactly once, and that was for only a few hours, but I have cousins up there.)
You must be very proud of your granddaughter! How do you wish a dancer good luck?
:0)
The weather is nice lately. June, always my favorite month was pretty chilly compared to previous years but from the news, it looks like it's scorching everywhere.
ReplyDeleteMy granddaughter has always been a whirling dervish so acrobatic dance was a natural for her. She also became very competitive so we look fwd to seeing how far she can take this. The videos her mom send back are amazing. Portugal is beautiful and all the kids are such athletes. Good start to the summer!
Speaking of weather, back in Europe it's blazing. Is it humans or is it just the process at work, despite humans? If the doomsayers were not prone to adopting false narratives on other issues, it might be easier to accept the dire predictions. But it feels like a racket. Scientists know where their bread is buttered. As important, when AOC and others start to act in accordance with what they say, but they don't. They demand more from others than themselves and they can avoid most negative consequences. They way they want to take the world, perhaps it will be better burnt to a crisp.
ReplyDeleteWell,I dunno. I am kinda a climate denier ie. I am skeptical humans are capable of effecting something as huge as the world climate which has seen all kinds of weather extremes before humans even existed but I am open minded enough to think...could be. And, if we HAVE effected it are solutions possible which don't hobble civilization? Don't know but can't get crazy activist about it.
DeleteWatched Trump's presser at the G20. Say what you want, but he is the most forthright of presidents. Took all the questions and answered in kind. Not afraid to tell it like it is. The transparency so many clamor for, until they get it. Never satisfied, conditioned like Pavlov to see Russia, they cannot see the extent of the abuses by Trump's enemies, against Trump and others, such as IRS against pro-Israel groups.
ReplyDeleteYeah, well, he doesn't say what THEY want and though THEY aren't president and he is, they think they know better than him. That makes them partisan hacks and activists, not journalists. Journalism is essentially dead.
ReplyDeleteSaw an Israeli flag on the live feed of some presentation. Go Israel! Go Canada! Don't think the USA is there.
ReplyDeleteBibi is taking a lot of heat for offering up deals to Gaza to deal with the arson balloons instead of taking action. Maybe if voters gave the guy a strong mandate he would.
ReplyDelete"Regarding his administration's proposed peace agreement, often called the "deal of the century," Trump said he believes that Israel and the Palestinian Authority do not come to an agreement during his presidency, he does not believe peace will ever happen.
ReplyDelete"With me being President, if you don't get that deal done it, will never happen. We'll have to see what happens," he explained. "But I think the Palestinians basically -- I'm not sure -- I know they want to make a deal but they want to be a little bit cute and that's okay. I fully understand where they're coming from."
"But I think we have a very good chance of making a deal, and a lot of people think that's probably the toughest deal of all. And it may very well be the toughest deal of all. A lot of people think it can't be made.
"I think they want to make a deal, and I've had a very good relationship with some of their leaders. And obviously I've had a good relationship with Israel."
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/265275
Trump is pretty smart about all this and I think he's right. But I predict the Pals will be too cute by far and blow it. Eventually, Israel will have to win a peace militarily and impose demands on the huge losers...for the Arabs will face huge losses in the end; it's only common sense. The world will go nuts but not for long and the resulting peace will make Gazan, Samarian and Judean residents lives wonderful and prosperous.
Arabs, who want to do business with Israel, tire of the Palestinians, as do more and more Palestinian people tire of Palestinian leaders.
DeleteJust like the ways of the past for Biden are not acceptable any more, so it may be with the Palestinians, except for their leaders and the Code Pink types that will go down to the bitter end and then move on the some other illiberal cause.

ReplyDeleteThe security of Israel is not assured.
Israel is the only nation in the world
whose very existence is threatened
by enemies, external and internal,
supported by a majority of the United Nations.
It is the only nation in the world whose
national movement, Zionism, has been
declared a form of racism by the United Nations.
It is the only nation in the world threatened
by genocidal war, the purpose of which
is not military victory alone, but extermination.
The genocide of Israel’s Jewish population
– a population roughly the size of the Polish Jewish
population at the beginning of World War II –
is not an unrealistic nightmare.
Nothing today prevents it other than Israel’s
military superiority over the combined
Arab armies and terrorist organizations.
If the Arab armies and terrorists were
capable of defeating Israel, destroying
its Jewish population, and “reclaiming”
ALL of current Israel, there can be
little doubt that they would try to do so.
Indeed, if any Arab leader were militarily
capable of destroying Israel, but refrained
from doing so, he would be replaced
by someone who would at least try.
…Although there are some moderate voices
within the Palestinian and Arab movements,
these voices are listened to only because Israel
is too strong today to be defeated totally.

to the point that the combined armies of the Arab world
could defeat it, I believe there would be another Holocaust.
No Arab dictator who could defeat Israel and forebore
from doing so would survive the continuing frenzy
for jihad [Islamic holy war against non-Muslims].
And an Arab military victory over Israel – unlike
the Israeli victories over the Arabs – would not
result in a mere occupation or even detention of Israeli Jews.
It would result in a mass slaughter,
designed to rid Arab holy land of Jewish intruders.
Most Jews know this, though they rarely speak of it openly.”

Trump becomes first sitting Prez to meet Korean leader on Korean soil. But he's a bad orange war monger, right? It would be interesting to see how history remembers all this 100 years from now.
ReplyDeleteJeremiah chapter 17 warns that the land of Israel will burn, if Jews fail to observe SHABBAT.
ReplyDeleteJeremiah chapter 17 warns that Jewish sovereignty over Jerusalem depends on Jews observing SHABBAT.
Why do you think so many nations want to take Jerusalem away from Jews?
Could it be because Jews are failing to observe SHABBAT, as is taught in Jeremiah chapter 17?
Happy Canada Day!
ReplyDeleteShout out to Hazoni's book, "The Virtue of Nationalism."
Reading about that Red Hen lady that condones spitting on people in a restaurant. Another example that kind of says it all. That she is given a forum no less. Another progressive assuming the right to dictate morals by any means necessary and claiming to stand for liberal values.
Thanks oldschool it was a great weekend The book sounds cool The red hen thing is awful and to be proud of it or supportive of them is an awful indictment of this age.
DeleteI am soooooooo tired of hearing garbage like this.
ReplyDelete"The myth of America as the greatest nation on earth is at best outdated and at worst, wildly inaccurate. If you look at data, the U.S. is really just O.K." from the NYT.

So, reminder why so many freaking illegals (and legals) want to go there instead of some other paradise. Gimmee a freaking reality check boys and girls.
In the BLT comments there was a scene from the Jeff Daniels TV show "The Newsroom."

ReplyDelete“They looked very foolish by trying to fight this,” Kushner said during the call geared for Arab journalists, adding that the Palestinian leadership made a “strategic mistake” by boycotting the conference. “Palestinians are starting to see that Israel is not responsible for their problems, it’s their leaders.” Talking about the recent “Peace to Prosperity” conference held last week in Bahrain.

Interesting fact that he is saying “Palestinians are starting to see that Israel is not responsible for their problems, it’s their leaders.” We seldom hear such language by world leaders. Abbas et al should be very worried.
I don't know if you ever heard of Mini-AOC but she is a little 8 year old Hispanic girl who did social media parodies of AOC. They were pretty funny. Her family has shut it all down because of DEATH THREATS.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2019/07/miniaoc-deletes-all-social-media-accounts-after-harassment-of-family/
8 year old kid getting death threats? something is seriously wrong in left land, man. They need to give their heads more than one shake. I pray the cops investigate and charge the despicable a**holes who threatened her.
That kid had her down pat. Such a sorry place we are in. It goes both ways. The online stuff is pathetic. People take this stuff too seriously, considering they have nothing much to do with what happens. They are so easily egged on. It's become so predictable, so boring. It's lazy and wrong to simply blame it on Trump, particularly the when poison entered the body politic before he arrived. The glossing over Obama was a great disservice to our nation.
DeleteAnd the left seems to feed on it yet there was a time the left (or maybe just the centre) hated stuff like that and embraced free speech. If America is becoming Fascist, it's from that side.

ReplyDeleteThe accusation of racism is the new McCarthyism. It's so obvious. Over at dKos, Mike and I and others were falsely labelled racists because we were Pro-Israel. That accusation eventually led to our demise. Silencing dissent used to be a bad thing. Now it's THE thing.
ReplyDeleteAre they even aware they were pushing an old Soviet line that the Soviets themselves finally admitted was really just an antisemitic campaign? I think we all know the answer to that one. Ignorance plays a huge roll in bigotry.
DeleteHappy Entebbe Day. I remember it so well. Israel's soldiers shone like gold all over the world for years after this; the only country to stick it to terrorists rather than give in.

ReplyDeleteThe blindness of America's critics to it's history and what its birth meant. Can one trust such ignorance? If only they would say a positive thing every blue moon, but not even then. So privileged, so angry. So un-woke.
The long march thru the institutions was predicted and known to be a strategy. How it was allowed to happen escapes me; sure Communism was all the rage on the left but Liberals? What the heck?
ReplyDeleteThey have become far gone. It's the totalitarian thing, the fear of being accused, that helps drive it. They may seem on the verge, and they think they are by their actions, but perhaps a rude awakening is in store. The 4th of July hate fest is not unnoticed. What are they complaining about anyway? One should not make light, they have it tough living the good life in the place they hate.
DeleteTo their disappointment, it seems, there will be no goosestepping today. Tomorrow, they will continue to cry wolf about something else, and to the end. But at some point no one will listen, especially when their bastions crumble around them.
