This Too Shall Pass

Michael Lumish

So, Laurie and I went to one of the Safeway in Alameda, California, just across from our home in Oakland.

It was like the Zombie Apocalypse!

I never saw so many people in such a frenzy to buy God Knows Whatever.

Toilet paper, naturally, was all gone. The crowds were purchasing all sorts of ridiculous bullshit just in case it was necessary to hide in their houses for the next month, or so.

For example, we noticed a lady with 10 bags of cookies... just in case.

The place was crowded and the staff looked desperate. I spoke with a butcher endeavoring to get meat on the shelves. As someone who once cooked for a living I said to the guy, "Shit, you guys are deep in the weeds."

He looked at me with what they once called a "gimlet eye" and said, "Ya think?"

{But, this too shall pass.}

  1. Let's hope Mike. Took the girlfriend out yesterday cause she is freakin' a bit and needed certain things and "needed," certain things "just in case, ya know. The toilet paper was all gone as were ALL paper products in 4 different stores we hit. The kitty litter was scarce so we had to buy 3 ginormous boxes which will stay in my trunk until needed. Amazingly the water was ok so I dodged that bullet for awhile. Bread, gone except for stuff that costs a fortune or nobody really eats. Butcher meats, gone. Pasta, gone. DRY PASTA....except the whole wheat stuff...lol.

    Now I hear certain Millenials and Gen-xers are calling this virus Boomer Remover. Yeah, ok snowflakes.

    All the cashiers I spoke with were working 2 -4 extra hours to help keep up. God bless their hearts. The local big drug store cashier told me they had one medium bottle of hand sanitizer for the whole staff and it was half gone and they were totally out of gloves so soon they were going to total self checkout for safety.

    1. Millenials are a nasty bunch. A product a several generations of progressive education and nanny state parenting laws. What can you expect from people that were babysat till the age of 16, and had to resolve conflicts through backstabbing and politicking instead of an honest schoolyard fight.

  2. OTOH, IF the stores ever get toilet paper again I will be able to buy some with all the money I am saving on gas. Lowest I've seen in years! Saving about 8 bucks a fill up.

    2. You can thank the toilet paper 'craze' to Australia.
      Yes folks, it began here. It was all over the place on TV and was picked up by foreign media.

      Total meshiganas.
