Zionism is the Jewish liberation movement

"Zionism is the Jewish liberation movement; its foundations lie in the recognition of the need for Jewish self-determination because history has proved beyond all doubt that Jews could ultimately never rely on the will of the majority in their host countries to either tackle the issue of anti-Semitism effectively or afford protection from it. That – unfortunately – is still true, even in the most ‘enlightened’ of countries.

Many years ago I had a T-shirt which stated on the front that “Feminism is the radical notion that women are human beings”. The same applies to Zionism; it is the (still, for some) ‘radical’ notion that Jews are equals and that as such they are, like any other nation, entitled to dictate their own destiny through self-determination. A Left which is anti-Zionist is a Left which denies the right of Jews to that equality, and therefore racist."

Part of a wonderful article over at CIF Watch. This part echoes my sentiments.

The Palestinian Authority Chooses the Status Quo

The Palestinian Authority will return to the negotiating table with Israel only if it stops building in the settlements and accepts the pre-1967 lines as the basis for a two-state solution, Nabil Abu Rudaineh, a spokesman for PA President Mahmoud Abbas, said on Sunday.

Oh, well. I guess in that case the status quo remains, but it's entirely their choice.

But, please stop telling me how "oppressed" these people are when they won't make even the slightest effort to relieve their own circumstances.

Y'know, we often hear that the Palestinians deserve a state. The truth of the matter, of course, is that the Palestinians deserve nothing.

Are they more deserving than Tibetans who would never dream in a million years of strapping a suicide belt onto a child?  No.  I do not think so.

Are they more deserving than the Kurds?  Ridiculous. Of course they are not, and for precisely the same reason.

Nonetheless, I still believe that they should get a state so that maybe they can bring themselves to take on the responsibilities of statehood and perhaps even curb their efforts to kill Jews.

That would be terrific.

Jews are a people Deal with it

Our old friend fizziks is asserting the truth at the swamp again.

Jews Are A People. Deal With It.

Many people on this website apparently want to deny my ethnicity, culture, and heritage - to pretend it doesn't exist, or even that I have invented it.

Well I'm here to tell those folks something.

I am a Jewish American.

I'm a proud agnostic, who has never been to Israel, who has barely ever set foot in a synagogue, whose girlfriend is a Louisiana Creole and a Buddhist... and I am also 1000% Jewish.

Because Jews are a people. It's my ethnicity, culture, and heritage, and the ethnicity, culture, and heritage of 8 million Americans and 15 million people worldwide.

You testify, man!

It's sad he feels he has to say so on dKos but of course we here know why. Truth is, the left is not getting any better at all this.

Some Questions for Corwin

In response to a comment, I posed the following questions to our friend Corwin Weber:

Why should Jewish people support a political movement that is detrimental to our well-being?

Why should Jewish people support a political movement that is home to anti-Zionism?

Why should Jewish people support a political movement that has, in fact, betrayed us?

Why?

It's time for Jews to finally recognize that the progressive-left, as a political movement, and thus the grassroots / netroots of the Democratic party, are hostile territory for us.

This is the Progressive-Left

The Israel lobby is a horde without a leader (0+ / 0-)

"Horde" is my homage to Mongols. To be the Khan of all the Mongols (not that Zhengis ever was, probably, right?) you have to be the most Mongol of all the Mongols--lead by example. These Mongols are each an "Army of one", riding, shooting arrows from a three-hundred-pound-draw-weight bow. The collectivity travels with livestock, all they need is grazing land and water. They have tribes. Tribes have political structures. To get this whole thing moving in a particular direction, like, "Let's go to Hungary!", takes some super-Mongol-ing.
Assaf's comments today open the question of Jewish values. I put these at three: ability to write/speak/take in lucid arguments (claim, evidence, significance--Mortimer Adler). Belief in a loving God who makes facts possible. Belief in a loving God who requires that I treat others as as free and competent (including competency at lying: using bad arguments) as I find myself to be.
These may reduce to one idea: no hierarchy, a perpetually uncleared market.
First item of business. Israel is not viable. Current efforts among the horde to make it so are moving in opposing directions. There is no way it can be made viable. "Jewish and democratic state" is a contradiction in terms. So the first act of the unified horde will be to disband Israel.

Second order of business. Realize this is not central Asia in the 13th Century AD. Or if it is, I am not only Zhengis Khan, I am also Thomas Aquinas, and it's time the horde started acting like reasonable people (see three criteria of Judaism, above). All your criteria of Jewish values only do you any good if you treat all people as if they were Jewish.

These are your friends and fellow progressive activists.

This is your movement.

He claims that Jewish and democratic are mutually exclusive, yet somehow Italian and democratic is not.

When did the anti-racist progressive-left become even more racist than the Republicans?

Report: Congress freezes aid to Palestinians

The Independent reports that US Congress blocked $200 million in aid to Palestinian Authority following Mahmoud Abbas' bid for UN membership and is threatening wider sanctions

The decision to freeze the funds runs counter to the wishes of the Obama administration and reflects Congressional anger at Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who defied US wishes by taking his UN membership bid to the Security Council.

Jeez, I'm devastated.

Actually, I would like to see Israel relieve itself of the annual 3 billion in subsidies the American government provides to its own arms industry through providing weaponry to that country.

Israel needs to be independent and beholden to no one.
