The Independent reports that US Congress blocked $200 million in aid to Palestinian Authority following Mahmoud Abbas' bid for UN membership and is threatening wider sanctions
The decision to freeze the funds runs counter to the wishes of the Obama administration and reflects Congressional anger at Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who defied US wishes by taking his UN membership bid to the Security Council.
Jeez, I'm devastated.
Actually, I would like to see Israel relieve itself of the annual 3 billion in subsidies the American government provides to its own arms industry through providing weaponry to that country.
Israel needs to be independent and beholden to no one.

ReplyDelete"Israel needs to be independent and beholden to no one."
Hear, hear. Exactly right.
US military aid to Israel was understandable after Begin / Sadat but now it's more of a albatross for both countries, I think.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see Israel say, in diplomat-speak something to the effect of, "You guys are great and we're an ally, but we no longer need this dispensation."
If it could be done in a mutually friendly way, I would favor.
It's good that Israel and the US have close ties when it comes to hi-tech weaponry. It's necessary to maintain an advantage over Israel's many adversaries.
ReplyDeleteBut do you want Israel to give up it's subsidy but not Egypt? Why? I believe one is tied to the other in any event.
Word has it Obama sent Israel bunker buster bombs in 2009, bombs necessary for a raid on Iran's nuclear facilities.
IMO it's best to keep the US and Israel interconnected when it comes to weaponry, at least until the fall of the Ayatollahs in Iran.
Speaking of which, have you seen the latest comments by Ayatollah Khamenei made at some "intifada conference" attended by none other than Hamas?
Horrible stuff, yet not a peep about it in the "liberal" blogosphere.
