The Moulitsas Discussion

Michael Lumish

This started out as a comment here, but when I dug up that old Docudharma thing I figured it could stand on its own.

I never saw Markos as a hateful guy, though.

Early on he made a dumb comment concerning the war in Afghanistan. I don't even remember, exactly, but it was callous concerning the loss of American mercenaries in battle.

As you guys know he never said "boo" about the Arab-Israel conflict, thus it is not reasonably possible to make an objective judgment on his thoughts on the matter. What I suspect is that his sympathies were not particularly with Israel, nor particularly with the Palestinian-Arabs.

What he knew for certain was that the issue was a potential threat to his livelihood so he stayed the hell away from it. I certainly don't blame him for that.

As I was chewing over this comment I found this satirical piece that I wrote for the hell of it about Moulitsas for Docudharma 10 years ago.

I reference Francis Holland at the end. My guess is that none of you guys will know that name. If I am wrong let me know.

But does anyone remember the name buhdydharma?

Markos Moulitsas, I am here to tell you, is one of the finest examples of humanity that I have ever witnessed.

He is a gentlemen, a scholar, a philanthropist, and, when he is not helping little old ladies across busy streets in San Francisco, he can usually be found at the local orphanage handing out presents to the poor.

Some have said of Markos that he is a combination of Martin Luther King, Jr… Mahatma Gandhi… Mother Theresa… Albert Schweitzer.

Others have noted that, in person, Markos fairly glows with the sublime, transcendent radiance of a thousand suns; a radiance normally attributed to holy men and bodhisattvas.
A mere glance of his divine countenance can heal the sick and gladden the heart.

Yea, verily, though I walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, I will fear no evil, because Markos Moulitsas walketh with me.

And Daily Kos?

They say of Daily Kos that it is a mere blog, but it is not.  It as an ashram comprised entirely of gentle souls and seekers after lost knowledge.

With Hunter on his left and Pastordan on his right, Markos walks among the children of Daily Kos and blesses them with his wisdom, his compassion, and his heart-breaking insight.

There is only one word that can really describe Markos Moulitsas.

It is Love.

The Divine Energy which is the source of Life is the Stuff of Markos.

And, remember, each of you, my friends.

His nature is that of forgiveness and in His magnificent heart… he cries for us all.

You Lie, Karmafish!

Moulitsas is Evil!!!!

He is the source of everything diseased and poisonous in the American political landscape.

He is the darkness that consumes the darkness.

Anyone who gets involved with Moulitsas soon realizes that behind that boyish face lies the mind of an evil genius who seeks nothing less than world domination!
Anyone who opposes him soon finds himself crushed beneath the Fascist Boot of his nefarious intent.

He will stop at nothing, I tell you.  Nothing!

He will destroy anything that gets in his way.

Before he is through the streets of San Francisco will run red with the blood of 1000 baby harp seals.

Good people throughout the land will flee in terror before the terrible onslaught of his crazed Orange Minions.

Entire cities will be consumed in fire and the land will be laid waste.

Markos Moulitsas is a foul and loathsome creature who, as an El Salvadoran Death Squad commander, delighted in torturing his victims with the ingenious cruelty of a maniacal psychopath.

There is only one man who can stop him!

There is only one hero to whom we can turn.

Our savior from a far-off land.

Francis L. Holland.

Yes, it’s Francis L. Holland – strange visitor from another planet who came to Earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men.

Francis L. Holland – who can change the course of mighty rivers, bend the will of Congress with his bare hands, and who, disguised as Armstrong Williams, mild mannered reporter from a great metropolitan newspaper, fights the never ending battle for…
Truth, Justice and the American Way!

  1. No offense, but with only so many words in a life, why waste them on this topic?

For example, here are two recent posts that are well worth the read, addressing the strange and dangerous situation confronting all of us.

    http://www.atimes.com/article/lawyers-civil-war/

    http://www.weeklystandard.com/camille-paglia-on-trump-democrats-transgenderism-and-islamist-terror/article/2008464

People say that this is just like the climate with Obama, but Obama supporters, regular people, did not have to squelch themselves for fear that there would retribution. The hate manifested against Trump, and the machinations against him, are far more serious because they threaten democracy itself.

On thing about Kos's web site, however. A look any day will show how far it is out of it. The only purpose these days seems to be for people to show and outdo one another just how much virtue they pretend to have, ironically by spewing hatred to most anyone and anything that does not toe the ideological line.

    1. What can I say?

I owe dkos a debt of gratitude.

It was dkos that taught me about politically-correct antisemitic anti-Zionism.

As for the progressive-left Wall of Hatred surrounding Donald Trump, I tend to agree with you.

There is talk these days of civil war - particularly after the Scalise assissination attempt - but that's silly talk.

Their cannot be a new American civil war until uniforms are decided upon.

And even more disconcerting than that is the fact that I do not have a side!

    2. oldschooltwentysix,

I had already read the Camille Paglia interview, but enjoyed reading it again. Thanks for the Spengler article. Very true and very scary.

    3. The war against Trump is 1 part his alleged uncompromising racism (aka a soft science, to say the least. I see no real evidence of this, only a shit-stained wall in a urinal), 1 part the delusion of collusion with Russia (another Hillary generated "vast right-wing conspiracy), and 1 part "obstruction of justice" for no underlying crime anyone can name. People are willing to shred the Constitution for this nonsense.

If any of those who are now untethered to reality would like to come back to earth ("the planet'), and talk about such mundane things such as the pros and cons of tax cuts, affirmative action, schools, roads & bridges, or real, not fantastical, foreign policy, I'm all ears. I'm not holding my breath.

I see no true connection between Trumpism and the right wing populism of Europe. (For example, Trump is the first POTUS who upon entering office publicly supported gay marriage.) The United States and Europe are two different species, much to the chagrin of many "progressives" or Marxists. Possibly, what Trumpism and right populism in Europe do have in common is the liberal elite's failure to recognize and deal with the problems of mass immigration and jihad.

Trump's "intolerance" is limited to illegal immigration and stopping the jihad from reaching our shores. Our immigration laws were not written by Hitler, but by Democrats and Republicans, and they weren't written to prohibit immigration to the US. If all those laws were enforced to the T, the US would still be one of, if not the, most welcoming nation for immigrants around the globe (grotesquely, in my persnickety view, referred to by some as "the planet") with incredible legal protections for members of minority groups.

    4. What I'm trying to say is that Trump is duly elected and has the right to be there, and I will not abandon that view simply over policy differences real or imagined.

    5. Daily Kos is is easily criticized, and it is worse now that most reasonable and tolerant liberals are gone. A glance at its pages is laughable. So out of touch and so filled with hate and superiority. The proprietor pretends not to know he's a capitalist, and freely permits antisemitism and vile. Well before the present toxicity of social media became mainstream, it was commonplace there from the start.

As to Trump and the Democrats, Goldman summed it up best by saying, "Trump’s one great advantage in all of this is that he has done nothing wrong."

That does not mean he will not be hounded or even impeached if Democrats have their way. What a waste when one considers the problems left by Obama on so many fronts.

To compare Trump's treatment to Obama's is fake news. How many Republicans boycotted Obama's inauguration? The hate for Trump is more scary than seen for Obama because it is more mainstream and directly acted out among the people. Too many would rather say nothing than be called racist and evil.

One day Democrats may lament the lost opportunity they had with Trump to actually move things in a better direction. Instead, they took the path that gives more power to the ones that most advantage from their lack of participation. Smart, those Democrats are, in their own minds. And the progressives and the courageous antifa are the most illiberal and authoritarian of all.

    Well, not exactly.

    IOW, BOTH sides bad.

    2. The usual equating of the two sides. Makes me want to puke. One side wants to kill the other. The other one that always gets to me is when some say what makes this conflict intractable is "two sides fighting over the same land for thousands of years." Who supplies those idiots with such bullshit ignorance and contemptuous arrogance?

    2. There is a lot of talk about "civil war" coming from the right since the Steve Scalise shooting. I think that what bothers me the most, tho, is that race relations in the US made terrific gains between MLK, Jr and Obama and now its all gone to shit. When the Clinton campaign glomped onto the "alt-right" and Breitbart and the Evil Pepe they manufactured a "White Scare" that is now encouraging a backlash.

    3. Kos has just declared war on "white progressives."

"do white men want women and marginalized communities on their side, or do they really want to turn this into a pissing match over “identity politics” and shit? Because the reality is, those white male progressives are a small minority in our movement. They are about to learn what it’s like to be in the margins of a big political movement. And they have two options ahead of them: 1.) solidify their marginalization on the fringes, or 2.) become a genuine ally in the broader fight—one that will benefit us all in the long run."

    5. Holy shit!

This is the first that I am seeing of this and it's perfect!

It's just the kind of material that I need.

It's another little piece of anecdotal evidence that the Left is going thru a process of deliberalization.

Anti-racism is, as it should be, the liberal position.

MLK, Jr.'s imperative to judge people according to the nature of their character is the central defining concept of contemporary liberalism when it comes to issues of "race."

Pretty much by definition, one cannot be a racist and a liberal simultaneously.

But Markos' comment is practically a declaration in favor of race war.

What he is saying is that unless white men do as he says it's open season.

The enormity of the hypocrisy of it all is what never fails to amaze.

    6. What we are witnessing is the western-left social construction of white nationalism.

They needed racists and, goddammit, if they didn't have enough to fight they'd provoke a whole new wave.

      Good for them!

    8. So, Markos has just admitted that he is a leftist only BECAUSE and AS LONG AS the left champions his ethnic interests as a Latino.
Apparently only Jews have to give up Zionism for acceptance.

Lot of this in general on the left:

"Of course, it’s not just white progressives who struggle here. White people from across the political spectrum are overt racists, hold implicit biases, and/or harbor otherwise problematic, incomplete views about race. All white people fall into one or more of these categories, from vehement anti-racists to card carrying white nationalists."

    1. If white people "from across the political spectrum" are overt racists, why are these guys always looking for clues? And which people, for that matter, don't hold "implicit" biases, or "incomplete" views about race (whatever that means)? As far as I can tell it's a bunch of muddled thinking hiding behind loaded language. What does an idiotic phrase like "incomplete views about race" even mean?
Obsessing about race has always been a hobby of the narrow-minded.

    2. Excuse me for not remembering the ridiculous notion of "implicit bias" from the Hillary campaign. And people still don't know how she lost? Who needs Russians when you have Hillary?
