Let the Palestinians Declare a State

Abbas says he has backing for new UN upgrade push

Citing decisions at Non-Aligned Movement, Arab ministers and Islamic states meetings, Palestinian president will push to change UN status to non-member observer state.

The key word here, of course, is "state." Non-member observer state.

A Palestinian diplomat told Reuters that Abbas was referring to securing recognition as a non-member observer state, a first stage towards recognition of a Palestinian state.

A simple majority vote in the 193-member General Assembly would be enough to bestow non-member observer status, bypassing the Security Council - where the United States has a veto.

Let the United Nations declare a Palestinian state, but let Israel declare its own borders. The question of borders must be resolved, but Israel cannot count on any negotiated agreement with the Palestinians concerning anything. That being the case, Israel must declare its final borders and relieve itself of responsibility for people beyond those borders. I am certainly no expert on Israeli geography or security needs, but I have full faith that the Israeli government knows both very well. They need, therefore, to draw the line in the sand.

A future Palestinian state may very well be a dagger aimed at the heart of the Jewish people, a dagger containing the force of the Islamic governments throughout the world, but Israel can deflect that dagger as it has been doing decade upon decade.

The Jewish people must free ourselves of the occupation. The Jewish people of the Middle East are a people under siege by the empire of Islam and have been for fourteen hundred years. The reason that there is no peace between the parties is not, as Barack Obama implied, that neither side wants peace. The reason that there is no peace between the Jews and the Muslims in that part of the world is because the Islamic governments have absolutely refused to allow Jewish sovereignty on Jewish land because that land was once considered a part of Dar al Islam. Jewish sovereignty in Israel is unaccpetable to the Umma for religious reasons.

What this means is that the Palestinians will not stop fighting the Jews anytime in the near future. If Islamic religious identity is inconsistent with the existence of Israel, Palestinian identity was born out of the Arab-Muslim struggle against the Jews in the twentieth century. The main reason the Palestinians exist as a separate nationality is because of their unjust war against Jewish sovereignty on historically Jewish land. Were there no Israel, were there no yishuv, there would be no "Palestinians" as we now know them. Were there no Israel the Palestinians would be Syrians, or Jordanians, or Egyptians, but they would not be some separate "Palestinian" nationality because they would have been absorbed into the larger Arab world as citizens within this country or that.

In fact, the only reason that Palestinians generally do not hold citizenship in the countries where they reside, such as Lebanon and Syria, is because Israel exists. Even Palestinian citizenship in Jordan is tenuous at best. The Arab governments are occupying the Jews of the Middle East and they are using the Palestinians as weapons against us. The people who most mistreat the Palestinians are not the Jews, but their fellow Muslims. We take the blame, naturally, for Muslim mistreatement of other Muslims and we increasingly take that blame from the international progressive-left, as well.

It is long past time to snap out of the Oslo Delusion and recognize that this problem is not the fault of the Jews of the Middle East and that nothing that those Jews can do will resolve it and that includes ripping Jerusalem in half. This ongoing aggression is because of Arab-Muslim Jew-Hatred grounded in the Koran and the Hadiths. It is not because of Netanyahu or the Likud or the separation barrier or the blockade of Gaza or the checkpoints. To think otherwise is to confuse cause with effect. It is because of Arab-Muslim race hatred toward Jews that these other things exist. It is because of Arab-Muslim race hatred toward Jews that the Palestinians have developed a sick culture, a culture that venerates suicide bombing and that wallows in malice toward us.

What we need to do is recognize the obvious truth that resolving the conflict is largely beyond the control of the Jewish people, but that we can, nonetheless, defend ourselves. We cannot force the Palestinians to accept a state in peace next to the Jewish one, but we can damn well hobble their ability to chop off the heads of three month old baby girls.

Israel is strong, and hopefully getting stronger, and that is about the best that we can hope for.

Well, Jesus Christ on a Cracker, that was a monumental pain in the ass!

My Google account was hacked and I had to spend half the day yesterday screaming my bloody head off to no less than five different "Google Account Specialists" to get back into the system.

Even now that I am back in my address book is empty and my inbox is entirely wiped out.

And, I have to say, things move mighty quick in the world of on-line pro-Israel advocacy. In the brief time that I have been out of commission we've been treated to the Democratic party throwing the Jewish people under the bus and, then, having second thoughts on the matter.

In any case, I am back.

So, Alan Dershowitz has found the problem with the DNC debacle...rogue elements.

Speaking of “rogue elements” within the Democratic party, which he said range from Arab-Americans to anti-Israeli American Jews, Dershowitz said it was their goal to end the alliance between the United States and Israel, and that the 2008 language regarding Jerusalem, Hamas, Palestinian refugees, and Israel’s borders were all left out of the initial 2012 platform due to their efforts.
“I think these rogue elements had a hand in changing the 2012 platform from the 2008 one.  Whatever the arguments and justifications are, there is no doubt in my mind that there are these rogue elements within the Democratic party, and they are trying to exercise influence,” he told The Algemeiner.  “If they had their way, (they) would end the kind of positive relationship between Israel and the United States.”

Dershowitz said that delegates “tend to reflect the extremes of the party”, which he says are a minority on the left, however he does not believe there was the two-thirds vote necessary to amend the Democrat’s platform language on Israel, which passed when convention chair and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa passed the measure after three separate votes.
“I do not believe that two thirds of the delegates voted to change the platform. I think that there was a statement made by the chairman, but I don’t think he was right about that,” Dershowtz said to The Algemeiner.  “From the voices that I heard, it sounded like it was split down the middle, with maybe a slight majority in favor of changing the platform.”

Yeah, rogue elements which seem to compose about 50% of the delegates according to the voice vote. You know, I like Dersh but those are some strong rose colored glasses he is wearing. 50% ain't rogue. But you can't blame him really. He isn't the only Dem we know who can't quite see the writing on the wall is he? Hey, look at all those "rogue elements," over at dKos.

I stand with JVP for selective divestment and boycott of settlement products (and support BDS), along with hundreds of thousands of other people, including tens of thousands of Jews, which challenges the message of ‘extreme’. You must know by now how women are treated across the Muslim world including in "Palestine". You have no right to be ignorant of this if you are taking a public position on whether the world would be a better place if Israel did not exist and all its citizens had once again been robbed of their land property and lives as free people because of a nasty superstitious aberration of the religious mind.  What is this? A game of "don't mention the women"?

The following map shows you the division of land between Israel and Palestine from 1948 to 2005. Much of the Palestinians’ land is divided by Israeli military checkpoints. Click on the map for a larger image.





A lie of course that anyone with any knowledge of the twentieth century and the region could see in a second and classically debunked here.

This map is a lie.

The first panel of the traditional version of this map has the biggest lie:

While I presume that the white sections are indeed the land that was privately owned by Jews, the land in green was not privately owned by Arabs.

Only a tiny percentage of land in Palestine was privately owned. The various categories of land ownership included:

• Mulk: privately owned in the Western sense.

• Miri: Land owned by the government (originally the Ottoman crown) and suitable for agricultural use. Individuals could purchase a deed to cultivate this land and pay a tithe to the government. Ownership could be transferred only with the approval of the state. Miri rights could be transferred to heirs, and the land could be sub-let to tenants. If the owner died without an heir or the land was not cultivated for three years, the land would revert to the state.

• Mahlul: Uncultivated Miri lands that would revert to the state, in theory after three years.

• Mawat (or Mewat): So-called “dead”, unreclaimed land. It constituted about 50 to 60% of the land in Palestine. It belonged to the government. ...If the land had been cultivated with permission, it would be registered, at least under the Mandate, free of charge.

By the early 1940s Jews owned about one third of Mulk land in Palestine and Arabs about two-thirds. The vast majority of the total land, however, belonged to the government, meaning that when the state of Israel was established, it became legally Israel's. (I believe that about 77% of the land was owned by the government, assuming 6 million dunams of private land as shown in this invaluable webpage on the topic from which I got much of this information.)

To say that the green areas were "Palestinian" land is simply a lie.

In the case of this version of the map, the lie is even worse, as the implication is that pre-1948 Palestine was an entirely Arab country with no Jews and no Jewish land ownership. Of course, before 1948 the word "Palestinian" more often than not referred to Palestinian Jews, not Palestinian Arabs. For example, the Palestine exhibit at the 1939 World's Fair was entirely Jewish, the Palestine Orchestra was entirely Jewish, the Palestine soccer team was almost entirely Jewish, and so forth.

Now the next one:

While this is a somewhat accurate representation of the partition plan (with the notable exception of Jerusalem, which was meant to be an international city,), it has nothing to do with land ownership. The entire purpose of this map is to make it appear that Israel has been grabbing Arab land consistently, to serve as a bridge between maps 1 and 3. What is not said, of course, is that Israel accepted the partition and the Arabs did not, so as a result Israel in 1949 looked like it does in map 3.

Map 3 is still a lie, however, because in no way was the green land "Palestinian" at that time. Gaza was administered by Egypt and the West Bank annexed by Jordan. No one at the time spoke about a Palestinian Arab state on the areas controlled by Arab states - only in Israel.

In other words, this progression of maps is a series of lies meant to push a bigger lie, and it is tragic that a lot of people believe them to be the truth.

Here is a small attempt on my side to show a more accurate picture of Israel's giving land it controlled up for peace since 1967:

This map shows that Israel gave up control of the Sinai, Gaza, Southern Lebanon and much of the West Bank over the years. Rather than falsely accusing Israel as a land-grabbing rogue state, it accurately shows Israel as perhaps the only state in history that has voluntarily given up more than two-thirds of the areas it controls in exchange for nothing more than a paper agreement - or sometimes not even that. All at the risk of serious security concerns for her people, no less.

This is all because Israel wants, desperately, to live in real peace with her neighbors. This desire is not reciprocated by those neighbors, unfortunately.

The real map shows the truth of Israel's incredible concessions in the often vain hope for peace.


"Palestine" is a lie. Even the "Palestinians" say this by now. Listen to these people. Oslo was a fraud all along. They don't want a "Palestinian" state. They never did. They want Israel destroyed and they say so.

We are in a post--Oslo world and the way forward is not clear. But it seems the two state solution is off the agenda forever. The Arab Muslims have said no. No means no. They have convinced themselves it is not necessary even to discuss among themselves. They believe that Israel and the Jews are hated in the West as much as they are in Muslim lands.

 When you see blogs like Israel and Palestine   populated by active clergy who have the time to focus on Israel and the Jews in open support of those who demand that Israel be destroyed with what can only be described as religious zeal  you do have to wonder.

ProSemiteUndercover - an Internet Band of Zionist Brothers and Sisters

Once upon a time, a group of Zionist and mostly Jewish Democrats took part in a lively political forum known as Democratic Underground.  At first we were content to bash George W. Bush and those evul Republicans in unison with all the other happy partisans.  We mostly more or less agreed with the consensus views on Bush tax cuts (bad),  Al Gore (good), the Iraq war (bad), and a host of other issues.  Online life was good.

But there was one tiny problem:  the Israel/Palestine Group.  At first it was no big deal.  We mostly thought Israel was less to blame for Mideast turmoil; others maintained the Palestinians were.

But over time, things got ugly.  Opposing posters began complaining a little less about the IDF and a lot more about AIPAC.  They began linking somewhat less to Huffington Post and Daily Kos and more than occasionally to John Kaminski and Jeff Rense.  The Democratic President held up as ideal was likely to be Jimmy Carter;  FDR, not so much.  This was Not a Good Thing.

Our little band of brothers and sisters took exception, each of us in his or her individual fashion.  Some of us got banned from DU, others survived, but were disenchanted.  And so, we decided to form a new web forum, general-political, but with a Zionist view.  (Confession:  I wanted to call it Prosemitic Underground, but luckily wiser heads prevailed.)

And that's how ProSemiteUndercover was born.

At first we mostly monitored and countered DU, much as Israel Thrives monitored and countered Daily Kos.  We soon branched out much as your site did.  At times we were quite active but things have gradually quieted down.  Some of the more active members include drdon, meti57b, Andy Lewis, Countmein, and Behind the Aegis.  We could use a  little company.  .
