Many in the progressive-left do not merely despise the Jewish State of Israel, but pretty much all things Jewish. Thus it is not the least bit surprising that their hatred for AIPAC is only exceeded by their hatred for Israel, itself.
A recent "diary" by "gobacktotexas" is entitled, Finally! Obama 'Hit[s] back hard at AIPAC'.
Finally! At long last Barack Obama is hitting back at those Jews hard! Well, thank God for that. We can't let those uppity Jews get too comfortable, now, can we?
According to the New York Times:
President Obama had a tough message for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or Aipac, the powerful pro-Israel group that is furiously campaigning against the Iran nuclear accord, when he met with two of its leaders at the White House this week. The president accused Aipac of spending millions of dollars in advertising against the deal and spreading false claims about it, people in the meeting recalled. The following comments beneath the Daily Kos piece give an indication of just how "progressives" feel about the single most important pro-Israel / pro-Jewish organization in the United States.
So Mr. Obama told the Aipac leaders that he intended to hit back hard.
I can't understand how any human being would have trouble understanding that. AIPAC and Israel WANT the United States to go to war with Iran, period. The Jewish warmonger theme is an oldy but a goody.
by MargaretPOA on Sat Aug 08, 2015 at 05:35:17 AM PDT
Yes, Israel and AIPAC want war for no other reason than that Jews are warmongers.
We want war because we like war, period. Besides, sometimes we profit from wars. So there is that, as well. Its a twofer!
You know what? (5+ / 0-)Ah, so Chuck Schumer disagrees with Barack Obama on the deal and this means that his loyalties are compromised. Got it.
There are some individuals in our government who actually do have compromised loyalties with regards to different interests. Most of them are on the Republican side of the aisle. Schumer is ostensibly one of ours and has all but come out and admitted that his loyalties are torn when it comes to foreign policy.

I despise doing more for Israel's protection until they make an effort to act like a civilized state and act considerate of their neighbors instead of stealing land and committing genocide.
I'm all for Israel receiving their own sanctions.
by mjd in florida on Sat Aug 08, 2015 at 07:31:57 AM PDT
So, Israel, unlike its neighbors, apparently, is uncivilized. Judea does not belong to the Jews, but to the conquering Arabs. And Jewish Israelis are committing "genocide" against someone.
mjd in florida is a true progressive friend of the Jewish people.
He or she had also this to say:
Can you imagine how sick it made me last summer to see young Israelis partying on blankets on a hill to watch the bombs dropping on the helpless civilians in Gaza? It was as if they were watching a rock concert.Well, they're Jews! Naturally they love violence and seeing people suffer. Or it could be that after two years of rocket fire into southern Israel giving their children PTSD they were happy to see their government do some fighting back on their behalf.
I've fucking it had with the MIC, AIPAC right-wingers in our country. Move your own kids to Israel and send them all off to fight their own selfish and genocidal wars for greed. I'd rather make peace with Iran.
by mjd in florida on Sat Aug 08, 2015 at 04:22:40 AM PDT
But, no, they were just cheering on a Jewish genocidal war against the innocent indigenous population which was undertaken for no other reason than financial gain. You know how those people are, after all.
I worry Netanyahu & current AIPAC is damaging (32+ / 0-)eztempo is deeply concerned about the well-being of Israel and maybe someday, after the Israelis have apologized and made amends for something, then perhaps the American people will again look kindly upon the Jews of the Middle East... but not until they tend to their moral conscience.
American people's good will for Israel
If the government of Israel can rein in Netanyahu's rank partisan meddling in American politics, perhaps the trust and kinship the people of the U.S. feel for the people of Israel won't be broken irretrievably.
by eztempo on Sat Aug 08, 2015 at 02:27:11 AM PDT
The knowledge that the AIPAC crowd regards these young Americans as expendable tools in their political ambitions makes me physically ill. That's right. All those Jews in AIPAC look upon the children of their fellow Americans as nothing more than cannon fodder in the service of Jewish Supremacism... clearly.
by beltane on Sat Aug 08, 2015 at 06:14:48 AM PDT
How aware are they of this? (8+ / 0-)No foreign power has ever fought a war for Israel, yet they continue to claim that Israel drags the US into wars for their own nefarious reasons. Never mind that Ariel Sharon actually advised George W. Bush against attacking Iraq, they still tell one another that that was a war for Israel.
I'm sure your sons will give all they have to defend the United States of America. But to fight and die for Israel -- especially Netanyahu's Israel -- would be a tragic waste of young lives. I hope your sons and their classmates are never in such a position. But thanks to Chuck Schumer, they're that much closer.
by Buzzer on Sat Aug 08, 2015 at 06:28:36 AM PDT
Current AIPAC? (11+ / 0-)Right-wing hate group? Such pleasant people these "progressives" are. So AIPAC is a hate organization like, say, the Klan or the Westboro Baptist Church.
AIPAC has always been a right-wing hate group.
by Warren2016 on Sat Aug 08, 2015 at 06:21:52 AM PDT
In any case, as you can plainly see, it is a river of contempt flowing out of progressive-left venues aimed squarely at Jewish well-being. Criticism is one thing, but defamation is something else entirely. One cannot defame Israel or AIPAC in the most vicious and outrageous terms possible and then turn around and claim to actually be a great friend to the Jewish people.
Uh, no, you are not. So sorry.
Oh they are good friends to the "right kind," of Jew. All others need not apply.
ReplyDeleteYa know, just when I think it can't get worse, the progressive left always proves me wrong.
And the thing of it is, of course, Doodad, is that most of the Left is pretty ignorant of the situation. They don't quite get that Jews who care about Israel are essentially harassed on the Left and they don't understand - or simply do not care - that Jewish Israelis are a people under siege.

Dear @SenSchumer -- one decision your Party doesn't like and they call you a greedy disloyal Jew -- think about that
9:53 PM - 7 Aug 2015
" What we increasingly can’t stomach—and feel obliged to speak out about right now—is the use of Jew-baiting and other blatant and retrograde forms of racial and ethnic prejudice as tools to sell a political deal, or to smear those who oppose it. Accusing Senator Schumer of loyalty to a foreign government is bigotry, pure and simple. Accusing Senators and Congressmen whose misgivings about the Iran deal are shared by a majority of the U.S. electorate of being agents of a foreign power, or of selling their votes to shadowy lobbyists, or of acting contrary to the best interests of the United States, is the kind of naked appeal to bigotry and prejudice that would be familiar in the politics of the pre-Civil Rights Era South.
ReplyDeleteThis use of anti-Jewish incitement as a political tool is a sickening new development in American political discourse, and we have heard too much of it lately—some coming, ominously, from our own White House and its representatives. Let’s not mince words: Murmuring about “money” and “lobbying” and “foreign interests” who seek to drag America into war is a direct attempt to play the dual-loyalty card. It’s the kind of dark, nasty stuff we might expect to hear at a white power rally, not from the President of the United States—and it’s gotten so blatant that even many of us who are generally sympathetic to the administration, and even this deal, have been shaken by it."

Totally agree. Except for one part.
DeleteIt is utterly sickening. And frightening.
Unfortunately - and speaking as someone who has been observing this administration from overseas - none of this is remotely surprising.
It has been apparent for some years now. In a thousand ways.
It is revolting and toxic. And completely predictable.
Completely.
One more thing. This is coming from the White House. From the President of the United States. Not just any president; but the progressive- left's "messiah".
DeleteThat is worth thinking about.
It's all quite condescending the supposition that these people know far better what's good for the Jews/Israelis than the Jews or Israelis do, and of course, it's usually an insincere sentiment. There's a word for this sort of thing. In fact, there are several - none of them good. They are absolutely tone deaf to what they themselves are saying and how it flies in the face of what they claim to profess.
DeleteThey can call themselves and the President "progressive" if they like, but East Germany called itself die Deutche Demokratische Republik, and Communist China is the "People's Republic," except that the people don't run it. Emptying words of their meanings and replacing them with trendy horse shit is what it's all about. They must protect all minorities from the white man, but the Jews need to be protected from themselves. These are ignorant people posturing and preening to make themselves feel important. They need to feel superior to someone else to accomplish this. There is a special list of those whom one may be allowed to feel superior to without suffering the consequences of being denounced as a bigot, but narrow-minded bigots they are. Their was a short piece by Douglas Murray the other day about the current state of the left. Did you see it?
Jeff,
DeleteI saw the short blog by Douglas Murray in the Spectator if that's what you are referring to. There was a good piece on the same issue at leftfootforward.org. By Toby Smith, I think.

One thing I think is important. The rhetoric coming from the White House is anything but "tone deaf."
I think it's absolutely calculated, with full knowledge of its resonances and implications.

Jeff, terrific comment.
DeleteYou should write some articles for IT.
I want to address this "sincerety" question, tho.
My suspicion is that the people within the grassroots of the Democratic Party who despise Israel are sincere.
People like, say, LeftyCoaster over at dkos, are sincere. He or she honestly believes that Israel is a racist, settler, colonial, imperial, apartheid, militarist, racist state.
Mike,
DeleteFirst, thanks for that compliment. (What is IT?)
Next, many children sincerely believe in the tooth fairy, but there isn't one, is there?
People like LeftyCoaster can't really back up such claims, but only fling feces. "I read this," "Everybody knows this," "Someone said this," etc. They actually know nothing. All people like that have is non contextual ravings. A look at Israel, its people, its laws and institutions, against most of the rest of the world tells us that LeftCoaster and his/her ilk are nothing but bigoted, obsessive lunatics. Such sincere people bookend nicely with those moral beings who sincerely believed they needed to protect white women from black men, who of course couldn't control their sexual appetites and needed a "moral" lesson at the end of a rope.
Jeff,
DeleteI sometimes use IT as shorthand for Israel Thrives.
The problem, tho, is that people like LeftyCoaster, and his innumerable allies at the grassroots level, are turning left-leaning Americans against Israel.
Someone like LeftyCoaster helps to widen the Overton Window so that it begins to seem reasonable to regular Western liberals that Israel is heinous.
And, yeah, I would love for you to write an article for IT.
Yes, of course I too see this as a problem and I'm not sure how we can get around this with the MSM also complicit at this point in time. It's going to take much effort, time and tactics to shame these people, but that is what we must do. How did I even get into this? Initially, my instincts informed me that something just smelled bad.
DeleteI would love to write a piece for IT at some point in the future. Right now I'm in the middle of a move (yes, I left CT for FL), so I have a lot on my plate at the moment.
This from Powerline:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2015/08/team-obama-warns-schumer-unconvincingly.php
There have been a lot of American journalists and commentators who have been horrified at this administration's behaviour and rhetoric re Israel and Jews for a long time. They're mostly not classed as "liberals" in the present American political landscape. Interestingly.
They believe, they truly believe, we are the devil. So responding to them is pointless.
ReplyDeletePointless if the aim is to persuade the convinced; maybe not so pointless if the aim is to inform/influence the undecided.
ReplyDeleteI don't know of anyone who is undecided on whether evil is evil. I suspect that they're simply disengaged on the matter. People don't 'know' things, they 'feel' things. They feel a way about this or that. And when you attempt to materially educate them you're wasting your time for the most part because you're asking them to think and they're asking you how they're supposed to 'feel' about it.
DeleteYouTube is filled with videos by people like Mark Dice, Louder with Crowder, Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel that ask people basic things you'd expect a 10 year old to know. But they hilariously don't know how many states there are, what language Canadians speak, what years were WW2. But if you ask them how they feel about Obama appointing Beyonce to the Supreme court, or how they feel about Obama's plan to suspend the Bill of Rights or whether they agree with Obama's plan to give Nebraska to the Space Aliens who recently landed there they are generally in favor of it.
There's a difference between stupid and ignorant. Stupid I can deal with. You're slow, you fell out of your mama that way and god bless you. Ignorance is proud of its ignorance. It wallows in dullness. It's like a retarded Cyberdyne model 101 T-800 Terminator. It can't be reasoned with.
Why do you think leftism is so popular with people who never benefit from it? It promises things, it makes them feel aspirational with no cost to them. Happy Days are Here Again, and all you have to do is elect me! Then sit back and wait for the free stuff to arrive.
As an aide I really got a chuckle out of Bernie Sanders who in the span of 60 seconds proved this very point. He spoke about giving free college to the middle class.......by hitting the middle class with a $500 billion dollar tax to pay for it. And they cheered! Stupid people wouldn't cheer for that but ignorant people will every time.
