KPFA Retraction

Michael Lumish

This retraction was aired on the Pacifica Evening News this past Monday 9/11/17 at 6 pm.

"On September First the KPFA Evening News aired a report on an ongoing controversy over a mural at Reem's, an Arab bakery in Oakland's Fruitvale District. We reported the owner, Reem Assil, obtained a restraining order against a protestor, Michael Lumish. That was an error. The owner twice asked the Alameda County Superior Court for a Temporary Restraining Order against Lumish and was twice denied. We regret the error."

  1. Congratulations. Did the Court set forth its reasoning on either of the decisions. It would be informative for you to post the Court document(s) if it did.

    1. How they could get something so easily verifiable wrong is beyond me. I even offered to talk with them myself before they ran the initial piece but they turned me down!

    2. Uh, fake news anyone? Before it happens to someone it's just a meme.

    3. It's KPFA. They're in the business of getting things wrong. It's ideological radio. I've known their people and I've known their listeners.

    4. Seriously, I am curious to know whether they were misinformed by someone (and who that person is), or, did their intrepid investigative reporter just hear what he/she, etc., wanted to hear.
      Did Seem tell them that?
At KPFA Pals are all vulnerable and need protection, and you, Mike, are the big bad wolf, huffing and puffing to blow her house down.

    5. I gotta tell ya, man, I am little reluctant to discuss this thing until after the hearing. I am probably being overly cautious... but I doubt that will last.

What interests me the most about this story, tho, is the manner in which it demonstrates how "intersectionality" ends up promoting antisemitic anti-Zionism.

Y'know, Oscar Grant was killed on the platform almost directly above Reem's and the Rasmea Odeh mural shows her wearing a pin or a button or a badge that reads "Oscar Grant."

    6. They should add the names of the two Jewish students murdered by Odeh to the button. That would bring clarity and meaning.

    7. It also demonstrates ideological confusion on the part of Reem Assil and Linda Sarsour and their allies.

The Panthers emphasized the idea that African-Americans are a "colonized" people within the United States and the cops are essentially plantation enforcers.

      The analogy is obviously nonsense.

What they refuse to understand, of course, is that it is the Jews on the Middle East - along with the Copts, Yazidis, and Kurds, among others - who are the colonized and the Arabs who are the colonizers.

Instead everything goes thru some sort-of ideological meatgrinder and comes out mushed into the American White-Black political economy, with the Arabs as "black" and the Jews as "white."

    1. Payment of fees and costs associated with defending against the action, and penalties against the lawyers for bringing an action with no merit.

Seems rather clear from that presented there were no acts to justify a TRO, or most likely an injunction, assuming the matter is rending.

    2. I am represented by Mintz, Levin is SF.

I have considerable faith in these guys, I have to tell you.

It was they who secured the KPFA retraction.

They know what they are doing.

    3. Cool. You can bet they will be seeking recompense if you prevail, which the denials of the TROs seem to indicate will happen. Then again, it is the Bay Area.

  4. What can I tell you guys?

I am reluctant to discuss this thing until the judge makes her decision in October.

Is the case against me frivolous?

    Absolutely.

This is a matter of lawfare.

The point is to shut me up.

But that is not going to happen.

This is still the United States.

    1. What was it you were supposed to have done again? (Rhetorical. No need for you to answer.)

  5. "This is still the United States."

Really? Maybe take another look around.
