Daily Kos Reveals Moral Bankruptcy of the Left

Mike L.

If you got to http://www.dailykos.com/tag/Libya you will see that there are over 100 "diaries" in the past two days alone concerned with the Jihadi attack on American diplomats in Libya.

Do you know what you will not find? Virtually none of the "diaries" condemn the attacks in a straightforward manner. They are using this incident to kick the holy crap out of Mitt Romney, and out of Israel, naturally (despite the fact that Israel had nothing whatsoever to do with the attack) but have virtually nothing to say about the Jihadis who killed the Americans.

This is how morally bankrupt the left has become.

Innocent Americans got slaughtered by radical Islamists and all they can think to do is kick around the Republican presidential candidate and the Jewish state of Israel.

I cannot even begin to describe just how disgraceful this is.

But, I suppose it's not particularly surprising. These are people, after all, who continue to think that the misnamed "Arab Spring" was about the great upwelling of democracy. The truth, of course, is that it was about the great upwelling of radical Islam, but they will never admit that to themselves.

I wonder why?

What is it about the progressive-left that they cannot bring themselves to condemn a rising political movement that targets Jews and gay people for death and that subjugates women?

In a recent comment on another website about this matter I wrote the following:

Well, the truth of the matter, of course, is that the rise of the radical Jihad, which is a genocidal anti-Semitic, misogynistic, and deeply homophobic movement, is the single most significant geo-political development since the fall of the Soviet Union. Country after country in the Middle East has fallen to "political Islam," including most famously Egypt, and the progressive-left turns a blind eye.

In this way, the progressive movement has made of itself an irrelevancy because it no longer stands for anything that could possibly be regarded as "universal human rights."

Your movement has betrayed its very reason to be out of the unacknowledged tension between human rights and multiculturalism.

These concepts are entirely irreconcilable and they represent the fundamental contradiction which has made the progressive movement incoherent.

When your movement chose the multiculturalism thing over universal human rights you, by logical necessity, turned your collective backs on women in the Middle East, gay people in the Middle East, and Jews in the Middle East.

This means that the progressive-left, as a political movement, stands for nothing.

They stand for nothing.

Not a precious thing.

  2. Not quite sure it's true that they* stand for nothing, at least domestically.

I wouldn't argue your point re: foreign affairs, though. I'm torn myself in that I'm generally an isolationist at heart, but I accept that in reality that isn't an option. So what do we do? Fuck if I know. I'm glad it ain't my job. But I sure know accession by silence (let alone blaming us for shit like this) sure won't work.

The mixed message of equal rights for all here at home, and silence in the face of aggressive political Islam elsewhere (or even when it attacks us on our own soil, which is what US embassies are), which stands pretty much diametrically opposed to the aforementioned, is absolutely a problem.

(*I've never considered myself part of any 'progressive movement,' as I hold more than a few positions -- like guns, for one glaring example, as well as a set of ideas on urban planning and sustainability / energy issues that don't really fit into any neat mainstream ideological box -- outside of what is generally considered their mainstream of thought, although I am a Democrat, and I am absolutely a man of the political left)

    1. And now here's a question, because I truly can't think of the answer offhand (and I'm not a conservative, so I can't answer it myself, and out of respect for them I won't make an attempt to generalize) - what is the flip side of that coin? What is the generally accepted collective conservative movement's position on how to deal with stuff like this?

I'm really curious, now that I think of it.

And once again, yeah. The Daily Kos hate parade against conservatives and Mitt Romney on this is ludicrous. On that alone, they're opening themselves up to your criticism. Can't we just all agree that these disgusting attacks (and those like them) are the fault of those who perpetrated them, and nobody else? And that these are bad people representing a political movement which would seek to take us back to the Dark Ages?

But I don't even know if I'm making any sense anymore, just thinking out loud right now, so I'll cut this right here for the moment...

    2. Jay,

you make a fair point on domestic policy and the thing of it is most of my friends are on the left.

I'm always a tad concerned about insulting people who might say to themselves, "Heyy! I'm a progressive and Lumish is insulting me!"

But none of this is meant to be personal. I have strong criticisms of the progressive-left, obviously, and I always hope those criticisms are addressed on the merits.

Also, of course, I would have characterized myself as a member of the progressive-left until fairly recently. My suspicion is that if we were to go down the list of issues, you and I would see more eye to eye than we might otherwise realize.

      Cheers!

    3. Oh, I absolutely get all of that. Sorry if I gave off an impression otherwise. Especially the last point. I have, after all, defended you on that last point numerous times against a shameless partisan hack who insists on characterizing you otherwise...

    4. Y'know, I want to give your question concerning conservatives the attention that it deserves.

I'll probably get to it later this evening.

    5. Cool, thanks. And I hope it's clear I asked that question with all due respect, and that I did not do so out of some sort of partisan warfare.

I've moved beyond that, after all.

    6. Jay, you asked this:

What is the generally accepted collective conservative movement's position on how to deal with stuff like this?

That's a tough question for me to answer, as well, because I am a stranger to the conservative movement.

What seems clear to me is that, in terms specifically of the Libyan murders and the Egyptian riots is that most of the progressive-left, including apparently the Obama administration, believes that it was that obscure film trailer that set off this recent round of rioting and murder and rapes and plundering and burning... and whatever.

The conservatives seem to be suggesting, and I think that they probably have a case, that none of this really has anything to do with this alleged movie that no one has ever seen.

What the right is saying is that all of this is really about 9/11.

I suspect that they are correct.

I cannot really answer your question, tho, because I do not know how they would deal with it.

What I know for sure is that Barack Obama should never have suggested that the misnamed "Arab Spring" was something akin to the Revolution of '76 or the Civil Rights Movement of the Martin Luther King era.

It clearly shows us that this man is not to be trusted... in my opinion, of course.

    7. I agree that this was not a spontaneous thing about some stupid film (which said 'film' was ultimately nonetheless blamed on Jews with the aid of the sensationalist mainstream media and their aversion to fact-checking - thanks guys! You make 'Jersey Shore' look like Walter Cronkite, you worthless shitheels), anyone with a brain could have figured that out simply based upon the date it occurred.

And I also agree with this -

"What I know for sure is that Barack Obama should never have suggested that the misnamed "Arab Spring" was something akin to the Revolution of '76 or the Civil Rights Movement of the Martin Luther King era."

As for the last sentence, I'll disagree. He has spent the last few years knocking off terrorist after terrorist, after all. But this is where reasonable people can agree to disagree, I guess...

    8. That's fair.

You know what we can show them, tho?

Let's show them a Jewish Obama supporter and a Jewish Obama detractor speaking together freely in a friendly manner straight up to the election.

      I like that idea.

  4. The shit has just BEGUN to hit the fan about all this.

"Exclusive: America 'was warned of embassy attack but did nothing'

The US administration is now facing a crisis in Libya. Sensitive documents have gone missing from the consulate in Benghazi and the supposedly secret location of the "safe house" in the city, where the staff had retreated, came under sustained mortar attack. Other such refuges across the country are no longer deemed "safe".

Some of the missing papers from the consulate are said to list names of Libyans who are working with Americans, putting them potentially at risk from extremist groups, while some of the other documents are said to relate to oil contracts.

According to senior diplomatic sources, the US State Department had credible information 48 hours before mobs charged the consulate in Benghazi, and the embassy in Cairo, that American missions may be targeted, but no warnings were given for diplomats to go on high alert and "lockdown", under which movement is severely restricted."

We really can't just ignore them, because they (somehow, some way, against all reasonable odds) do manage to maintain some amount of credibility with a certain percentage of the population. Astounding though that fact may be.

    So then what?

Blah, I don't know. I guess that's my job, as one who's chosen to remain within the left. It's to counteract morons like this, through our own language. Jon Haber at Divest This! has touched on this, and I wish I could put what I'm thinking into words better at the moment, but right now I'm distracted by the Phillies game (PHIL-PHUCKING-LEES-WHOO!!!!!!), so maybe I can touch on this some more tomorrow...

  16. "I'll also note that my point above stands - we can have all the truth in the world on our side, but we still have to learn to express this in language liberals understand, as well."

    Yes, I know.

    But it's infuriating.

The most vile perverse vicious imbecilic absurd lies are ubiquitously told about Israel, and Westerners -- contemporary Western so-called "liberals" and all -- swallow it wholesale.

But state basic facts about the reality of the situation in clear simple language, and contemporary Western so-called "liberals" think you're a hateful bigot.

Western anti-Jewish racism is disgusting. It's vile. It's what caused the Holocaust (and it's what caused, and what was constituted by, all of the previous belief in lies about, and hate toward, and the making and enforcing of persecutorial unjust laws against, and the repeated mass-murder of, and the intransigent contempt (expressed as: "I know you're guilty, you lying Jew.") toward, the Jewish people by Christian European, and culturally Christian-European Christian, and culturally Christian-European non-Christian, people for throughout the past two thousand years). (And so is Jewish Stockholm Syndrome disgusting and vile and what caused all of that.)

It's because the lies are propagated -- in sophisticated and crude -- subtle and gross -- ways -- almost unanimously. Now, most detrimentally, by the Western mass-media almost unanimously. With verbal and visual lies of omission, and with verbal and visual blatant lies. And, also exceedingly detrimentally, by Western academics. With perverse outright blatant lies. It's beyond belief. It's horrific. Western academia has frickin' gone Nazi. The West has gone Nazi.

But, actually, if the facts about the reality of the situation are stated in clear simple language -- concertedly and vigorously and repeatedly -- Western "liberals" will get it.

It's just that that's never been done!

That it's never been done is the whole point. That's the whole reason. That it's never been done is the whole cause of the persistence of anti-Jewish racism, and, as part of that, now belief in malicious lies about, and feeling of antipathy toward, the nation of the Jewish people, Israel.

    It needs to be done.

    "language liberals understand":

Just state the facts. Concertedly, and clearly, and vigorously, and repeatedly.

    ----

    "natural fit"

The joining of Jewish people with ex-Muslims, and truly "moderate" Muslims (non-Sharia-proponent Muslims (non-orthodox Muslims)), and non-Muslim non-Jewish Middle Easterners, who know the truth about Israel and the war on Israel, and who are telling the truth about Israel and the war on Israel, is a natural fit.

Supporting Israel is the natural, perfect, only, fit for authentically liberal people.

(BTW: The talk by Lars Vilks is somewhat "emotionally removed" and dryly humorous (partially because of the nature of certain events described in the talk) and the talk is somewhat superficial -- but it's a source of comic relief and it's somewhat informative. And Lars Vilks expresses, in the talk, that he now views the situation that he's in as a fictional story that he's watching. He's doing that to cope. The following interview of cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, and of Lars Hedegaard of the International Free Press Society, is more serious. In an interview, I think maybe this one, Kurt Westergaard expressed that he started to become afraid about what is happening in the world when an acquaintance of his who is highly "educated" (I think a doctor) and who is culturally Western, and who is Muslim, expressed complete belief in "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" conspiracy theory about the Jewish people.
